Rescue Me Animal Sanctuary Registered Charity Number 1157210 is a small foster home based animal sanctuary in the Merseyside area, set up in July 2013. We primarily focus on rescuing unwanted/stray cats and rabbits, however we will aim to help any animal in need. We currently have several foster homes

throughout Merseyside and we are very keen to recruit more! To find out more information, please get in touch; [email protected]
We have a strict non-destruction policy and will keep every animal in our care until a forever home can be found. We carry out home visits on prospective new homes, this is to ensure that the area is safe/suitable and also provide a time for advice on adopting a rescue pet and answering any questions the prospective owner has. Home visits are not to look at how clean a house is or
what the decor is like! All Rescue Me animals are deflea'd, wormed, microchipped, neutered (if the animal is too young, he/she will be recalled for neutering). Our philosophy is to accept an animal into our care based solely on its need and not on any other physical characteristic, providing we have a suitable foster home free. We believe that by looking after a rescue pet in a home environment we are able to fully assess the animal, understand its needs and the type of home he/she will require and ultimately match them to a suitable home. We are very excited about our new venture but currently only have a handful of volunteers, with more support we can achieve things faster and rescue even more needy animals...please come and join us, we'll welcome you aboard!!! We are desperate for donations, please help to keep us afloat!! Paypal; [email protected]

😻🐾 VIVACIOUS ADVENTUROUS VINNY IS READY TO GO HOME 🏡❤️

Vinny is 10-weeks old and is looking 👀 for his forever home.

Vinny is a beautiful tabby and white boy. He’s got a pretty little face like butter 🧈 wouldn’t melt but don’t be fooled! Vinny is full of energy and character! He’s into everything….he constantly follows his fosterers around and wants to play with anything that moves 🧸🎾. He likes to be on the move and runs around like mad, scooting around the floor at top speed 🏎️

When Vinny finally gets tired, he’ll have a good wash and then fall fast asleep 💤, snuggled into his fosterer’s neck or on their knee, purring away like an engine running.

Vinny is a lovely clean boy, who uses his litter tray perfectly each time. He has been briefly introduced to other cats who he finds very interesting….he can, therefore, be homed with a friendly resident cat and is young enough to get used to a cat-savvy dog.

Vinny is hilarious to watch and is very entertaining. He would suit a family who have time to spend playing with him, as that’s his favourite thing to do. Any children in a home should be aged 5-years+

Vinny is in foster in West Derby and has been neutered, chipped, parasite treated and has had his first vaccination. If interested in adopting him, please call us on 07952017696 and leave a voicemail. Adoption fee and vetting applies.

😻❤️ TYPICAL TORTIE SKITTLE IS LOOKING FOR A FOREVER HOME 🏡🐾

Pretty little Tortie Skittle is 2-years old and ready to go home.

Skittle is a lovely young cat and ready to find her family. She's a typical tortie and would be perfect for someone looking for a cat with a stereotypical purr-sonality!

Skittle is a complete love bug, she's obsessed with humans and wants to be around them. She will rub around her fosterer’s legs and ask for head scratches when she's feeling affectionate 🥰

She's a very clean girl and absolutely loves the odd treat 🍫🍭or two (who doesn't?!). She's quite playful and enjoys playing with her humans or entertaining herself. She's quite content to chill most of the day but will never pass up the opportunity to get in an extra stroke or two!

She would fit into most family set ups but she hasn't been tested around dogs and would likely prefer to be the only cat. She could be homed with sensible older children who are aware that she will need time and space to settle in. She may be a bit wary of new smells and surroundings at first but, once shes settled in, Skittle will be a wonderful addition to the family! She's been neutered, microchipped, treated for parasites and received her first vaccination.

Skittle is in foster in Preston but may be able to be collected from our HQ in Melling. If you are interested in adopting Skittle, please call us on 07952017696 and leave a voicemail. Adoption fee and vetting applies.

🌹❤️NOT YOUNG BUT NOTABLE NORA NEEDS A SPECIAL HOME 🏡❣️

Beautiful Nora is an older lady, aged 10-years+. Despite this her blood tests were clear and our vet has signed her off for rehoming.

Nora was blind on admission to us and we have removed her eyes, as they were causing her severe pain. She has polyps in her ears and we have treated these. She did need an operation on one ear, lateral wall resection. If her ears do become itchy in future, she may need a short course of steroids to treat this. However, she is currently stable and doesn't require any medication.

Nora has also had a dental whilst under our care.

We have noticed that, when Nora becomes stressed, she can move her head to side to side. This action settles by itself and only happens when she is stressed, e.g. in new environments. We have been monitoring this and it has not progressed at all in a lengthy period of time. Therefore, our vet is happy to sign her off for rehoming.

Nora is confident, inquisitive friendly girl, who purrs like a train 🚂. She is not a demanding cat and will make someone a lovely companion.

Nora mainly stays in her fosterers’ living-room and conservatory - where she loves to sunbathe. She will, occasionally, have a wander around the home and will miaow, if she gets lost 😻. She will then go to her people when they call her name.

Nora is a friendly girl and likes being picked up, held and carried around. She also loves having her ears, chin and chest tickled and will lick her humans’ hands in return ❤️.

Nora enjoys her food and uses her corner litter tray well…..even though she kicks her litter around!!

Nora is in foster in Skelmersdale and, in addition to the medical treatments already mentioned, she has been neutered, chipped, parasite treated and is fully vaccinated. Her fosterer is happy to speak to anyone wanting more information and can arrange a meet and greet.

If interested in adopting Nora to an INDOOR home, please call us on 07952017696 and leave a voicemail. Adoption fee and vetting applies.

💗 Searching for Jessie's ✨️Extra Special✨️ Home 💗

Sometimes an animal comes into your life who brings so much joy, and so many lessons along the way. For us, that animal has been Jessie

Born in Bosnia, Jessie was involved in an accident at a young age that left her without use of her back legs. She learned to get herself around by scooting along on her bottom. After spending 2 months in a vet and a year in a Bosnian rescue, she was imported by another UK rescue and directly adopted to a home which was unfortunately not able to provide her with the care she needed.

Jessie landed safely with Rescue Me in 2022, much to our relief.

We initially understood her hind legs to be completely paralysed, however on arrival she was assessed by Rescue Me’s wonderful veterinary team who discovered not only could she feel her legs but she could move them a little too!

With little or no muscle mass, incredibly tight tendons causing her back legs to be very straight, and deep spinal pain, the thought of Jessie walking again seemed impossible. But as she was, her toileting was causing sores and infections while the nerve damage to her back was no doubt responsible for severe discomfort. We had to do something to improve her quality of life, and fast, it just wasn’t fair to leave her as she was any longer.

It has been a long, incredible journey so far, with a wonderful team of fosterers, vets and animal physiotherapists rallying behind Jessie in her fight. She has weekly acupuncture treatments to aid with her nerve pain and spark activity in long forgotten pathways and no longer suffers with the painful sores on her rear.

Jessie has improved in her 18 months with us, receiving very intensive physiotherapy every few days. Although she is a very happy and affectionate cat, we cannot make any guarantees that she will regain full use of her back legs again, but she is becoming stronger and benefits greatly from regular sessions.

The road is very long for this kind of injury, so it is time to begin searching for her forever home.

Who are we looking for?
✅️ Adopters willing to be involved in her rehab before adoption
✅️ Able to continue regular sessions (currently six weekly) from a recommended, qualified animal physiotherapist upon adoption and keep up with her routine exercises at home
✅️ An adult only home
✅️ An understanding of cat behaviour, especially overstimulation
✅️ Lots of TLC to give, Jsssie says "cuddles on demand" 😆
✅️ Willing to find new, inventive ways for enrichment
✅️ Able to give Jessie her very own, easy-clean, easy to navigate, comfy room! 💅
✅️ Experience with disabled or intensive care animals desirable but not essential
✅️ Able to make visits to Southport for visits initially are preferable, but these may be able to be conducted online for the right home
✅️ Financially stable with an understanding her existing conditions will not be covered by insurance
❌️ No other cats (calm dogs may be OK after careful, slow introduction)

If you are interested in Jessie, or would like to find out more information, please call us on 07952 017 696 and leave a voicemail

Please help us and SHARE Jessie's story 💕 Her forever person is out there somewhere...could it be you?

Pablo needs a loving FOREVER home 🏡
***PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY BEFORE APPLYING***
🐶 Pablo is a 22 month old neutered male working cocker spaniel.
He came to us in an emergency when a local vets called us to say he was in a euthanasia appointment and was on the vets table about to be euthanaised for behaviour issues.
Pablo's previous owners described repeated bite incidents that sounded like resource guarding of items and space, which can be very common in this breed.

We are in no rush to find him a home as it is more important to take the time and find the perfect match for him.
In the time we have had Pablo, we have seen no resource guarding or any aggression towards people.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN TO SAY IT WON'T HAPPEN AGAIN,THERE IS A CHANCE THAT IN A NORMAL HOME ENVIRONMENT, PABLO MAY START RESOURCE GUARDING AGAIN IF HE IS PLACED IN A SITUATION WHERE HE FEELS VULNERABLE, THREATENED OR CHALLENGED INAPPROPRIATELY, ESPECIALLY WHEN HE FIRST ARRIVES INTO A NEW HOME WHICH WILL BE AN ANXIOUS TIME FOR HIM.
WE DO NOT HAVE A MAGIC WAND, HE HAS JUST BEEN MANAGED APPROPRIATELY HERE.
If he were to become possessive over an item or space, he needs someone confident and assertive but who will not directly challenge him.
Challenging a resource guarder only ends up with one outcome- a bite!
🐾He is a cheeky friendly boy who enjoys doing what he is told. He loves a cuddle and to play with toys. He enjoys his food and takes treats nicely.
He seems ok with dog savvy cats.
He loves playing with other dogs especially ones with similar energy levels who he can play and run around with.
He is house trained, none destructive, good with vets and groomers.
He can be mildly possessive with toys around other dogs, he is fed seperately from the other dogs to avoid any issues.

🏡To give him the best chance of a successful rehome we are looking for a home that can provide;
✅️Plenty of exercise and stimulation
✅️No children or visiting children
✅️Other neutered high energy dogs to play with
✅️Lots of outdoors time
✅️MUST be experienced with resource guarding (ie. actually lived with one previously).
✅️A home where there are just one or two people in the home who can get to know him really well, respect his boundaries and build up a genuine trust.

❤️‍🩹TRUST is the key and this will take time ❤️‍🩹

Any potential adopters will be expected to demonstrate how they would manage resource guarding.

🐶 Pablo is neutered, fully vaccinated, chipped, parasite treated, has a clean bill of health and will have 5 weeks free insurance.

🌊❤️ RAVISHING RUSHING RIVER IS READY……🏡😻

River is an independent, sassy 2-year old girly who is looking for a forever family……a family who would love Peggy Mitchell and Regina George in cat form. Could that be you?

River came to us last year after being abandoned outside a pizza takeaway with her two older kittens. She did a great job raising them and they found homes almost straight away but River, understandably, was quite stressed by such an upheaval of being thrown out of her home and left to raise her kittens on the streets. She had very painful, non-healing lip ulcers, as a result of stress and overgrooming. She’s been on medication to clear this up but her new owners should understand that this may recur and she may need further treatment moving home. We can guide options with this and send clinical history to the vets of any potential adopters.

Her fosterer strongly suspects she has only ever been played with using hands and this has been quite rough and unwanted by River. She sometimes confuses a friendly stroke from a human as confrontational and can react by batting. She doesn’t use her claws and, once she trusts someone, this behaviour becomes considerably less. She enjoys being stroked on her head, when she asks to be and scratched gently around her ears. Stroking her spine, tail and pretty much anywhere else is not tolerated….100% in the danger zone ⚠️

River LOVES snuggling up to her trusted humans in bed. She tends to sleep by feet 🦶in bed, but will come to cuddle up under her bed partner’s neck, in the morning, for a head rub. If she likes you, you might even be treated to an affectionate lick or two. She loves playing with toys and loves anything fluffy or with feathers 🪶🧸

River will be a rewarding cat for those willing to give her the effort, time and space she needs. It would be beneficial to know a bit about cat behaviour (or willing to have a read up on it) to help settle her in more and reduce stress levels. River took a few weeks to settle into foster properly and tended to hide away in her carrier until she built her trust and confidence. Lots of hiding places, high up viewpoints and respect for boundaries and personal space will win River over!

Although River has accepted the resident cat in her foster home, she would prefer to be the only pet. She doesn’t like dogs and may boss around any resident cats. Any resident cats would need to be very relaxed, chilled and the time needed to introduce them may take a few months. River wouldn’t be suitable for homes with young children and would need safe outdoor access in her new home. She’s very inquisitive and enjoys exploring outdoors, although doesn’t venture terribly far.

River has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and treated for parasites. River is in foster in Preston and available for meet and greet for any potential adopters. If you are looking for a strong willed cat full of quirks, with a unique personality, call 07952 017 696 and leave a voicemail. Adoption fee and vetting applies.

🐈🐾 SUPER SIMBA NEEDS A RETIREMENT PAD 🏡❤️

Simba is an affectionate, elderly gent looking for his retirement home.

Simba, at the ripe age of 16 years old, came to us from bailiffs, after his owners failed to claim him. He arrived quite underweight and we decided to run some blood tests to check for any common older cat problems. Simba had us all floored when his thyroid and kidney levels came back normal!

He does have some arthritis and muscle wastage on his back legs and around his head, quite common for a gentleman of his age. Due to this, he is on daily oral metacam. This helps keep him comfortable and, since he has been with us, he has put on just over 1kg in weight. Any potential owners should be aware that these will not be insurable conditions and regular prescriptions will be needed from your own vet. Our vet clinic can send his medical history to any potential adopter’s own vet.

We think you'll agree that he's still rather handsome 🥰

Simba is a clean boy and always uses his tray. He would benefit from an owner with knowledge or experience of older cats. He would benefit from some adaptations (litter trays with lower sides, ramps, comfy beds) to help keep him comfy in his later years. Simba is also on Fortiflora to help keep his bowels in check and support his tummy.

Simba is a greedy boy and pretty much clears whatever is put in front of him. Despite his age, he still has big ginger cat energy and will let you know when it is feeding time by singing you the song of his people…..😹👏

Simba loves nothing more than someone sitting next to him, getting ear rubs and chin scratches. He purrs loudly, and gives headbumps and the odd bit of drool in return as a sign of his love and affection 😻

Simba has been neutered, received his first vaccination, microchip, and parasite treatment. Could you offer Simba a 5* retirement home in his senior years?

If so, please call us on 07952 017 696 and leave a voicemail. Adoption fee and vetting applies. Simba is in foster in Bootle
