Conversations with your dog are one-sided, but you don’t need a verbal response to know talking to your furry best friend is a good idea. No matter how silly you think you sound, striking up a conversation while you’re out on a walk, cuddling on the couch, or preparing dinner has benefits you probably don’t know about.
Yes, your neighbor might think you’re crazy, but if they have a dog of their own, they should be doing it too. In fact, while not every dog owner will admit it, most people with good relationships with their pets find it natural to start chatting it up with their canines.
If that sounds like you, keep up the good work. And if you’re hesitant to start the conversation, here are a few reasons why talking to your dog on a daily basis is important.
Talking Improves Your Bond
The bond between a person and their dog is a powerful thing. The potential for a relationship based on mutual love and respect is one of the main reasons why people adopt dogs in the first place. Anything that bolsters that bond is something dog owners should be interested in. Some dogs open their hearts after the first belly rub, but a real, enduring bond will take time and effort. Your dog needs to feel perfectly comfortable around you, and part of that is being used to hearing your voice.
Human Speech Can Be Interesting
If you drone on about how awful your boss is, there’s a good chance your dog is barely paying attention. Your voice is probably a familiar-sounding buzz of background noise, and they’ll only start actively listening if they hear a word they recognize. Telling your dog about your day is good, but it’s even better to talk to them about things they can relate to and understand. They don’t speak the same language, but they’ve learned how to recognize dog-related speech, and studies show they enjoy listening to it.

The Cold Shoulder Method
Fit the collar
Hold him still and fit the collar on him. Make sure it’s not so tight he can’t breathe, but that it’s also secure enough that he can’t get it off. You wouldn’t like something choking you, so its important you put a mark on the hole you use so you can fit it with ease again next time.
No choke collar
Avoid using a choke collar to start with. These are usually used for training purposes and can be extremely uncomfortable, especially if he’s not used to wearing a collar yet.
Wait
Now let him get used to the collar. It may take several hours but eventually he’ll stop trying to get it off and accept his fate. During this adjustment period, keep an eye on him to ensure he’s not in pain and he can breathe properly.
Cold shoulder
Make sure you don’t give him the attention he seeks when he’s rolling around trying to get the collar off. Don’t laugh, talk or try to comfort him. He needs to know that this type of behavior won’t get him what he wants.
Head out
Wait until he’s accepted the collar before you secure him to the leash and head out for a walk. Otherwise, you might find he has a problem with the leash too. So be patient, he’ll eventually give up trying to get it off.

If you think cats are lazy because they seem to be sleeping all the time, you may be half right. Cats sleep an average of 13 to 16 hours a day. If a human did that, he'd be called a slacker. The age and general health of the cat has a lot to do with how many hours he will sleep. His living arrangements, too, come into play. A strictly indoor cat with little mental stimulation may become bored and take naps because there's not much else to do. Bottom line, cats may appear lazy because of their normal sleeping patterns.
There are different sleep patterns and their quality varies greatly from regular sleep to deep REM sleep to light cat naps. The cat nap is the result of a cat's instinct as a predator. During a cat nap, your cat can be up and running within seconds of opening her eyes; it's a very light sleep. Their night sleep is more restful, their bodies a bit more relaxed. A deep sleep is unmistakable, the body is totally relaxed, they are usually curled up or stretched out, you notice twitching and rapid eye movement that indicates dreaming and it takes a moment for your cat to wake from a deep sleep. Your cat isn't being lazy so much as simply giving into habit.

The Root of the Behavior
As animals, there are certain ways of being that constitute how they uphold themselves throughout their life. Dogs have a tendency to want to chase things. In past times, dogs were trained to do this for the purpose of hunting. Once they had achieved their goal, they were to return back to their owner with their prey. Chasing things and hunting was also a tactic for survival. Today, animals have that movement, desire, and action ingrained into who they are. Yet, animals don't hunt anymore for survival and it is not a popular sport for our animals to hunt. Dogs are aware that balls are not rabbits, but the act of chasing a ball replicates that of their past time. The ball is an item dogs love specifically because they can chase it well, it can fit in their mouth easily, they can spot it, and it is fast. When you are playing fetch with your animal, there are many other reasons why they will find it enjoyable. Playing fetch makes your dog feel good. When they chase the ball and retrieve it, this is a deed accomplished and their body knows it. This is how they are as dogs. It feels quite rewarding to them, just as accomplishing one of our own goals makes us feel good. We do not need a payoff to do it, although it feels better when we get one. Playing fetch and tossing a ball to your dog is another way for quality time for you and your dog. Some animals will choose not to love playing fetch, but others will immensely love it. This could depend on the breed of dog that you have and it could also depend on the temperament of your dog. Ultimately, the movement of a ball will mimic that of prey, and the animal is able to use their instinctive nature to chase and retriever the ball.
