As temperatures drop, it’s important to know when it’s too cold to walk your dog❄️

Fit and healthy dogs with thick fur should be fine in all but the most extreme cold weather but our young and old dogs are more susceptible to the cold, so please read the below:

Signs that your dog may be too cold:
❄️shivering
❄️ lifting paws off the ground
❄️whining, slowing down
❄️trying to turn back home

You can help keep them safe by keeping walks shorter in the cold, protecting their paws with dog booties and ensuring they have a warm coat. Always monitor your dog closely and bring them inside if they show signs of discomfort.

⚠️As the temperatures drop, many of us start using antifreeze in our cars… but did you know it’s one of the most dangerous winter toxins for pets? ☠️

Antifreeze (which contains ethylene glycol) is often sweet-tasting to cats and dogs, but cats are most sensitive meaning even one teaspoon can be fatal.

📌Key precautions:
- Store antifreeze well out of reach
-Clean up any spills immediately
- Don’t let your pet drink from puddles or driveways
- Avoid using products containing ethylene glycol - or better still any
chemicals; try an ice scraper or windscreen cover instead.

⏱️If you suspect your pet has licked or ingested antifreeze or screen wash, call us immediately. Time really is critical with this one.

🎉 Happy Practice Manager Appreciation Week! 🎉

Today we're celebrating our incredible Practice Manager, Fiona, who is the backbone of Luxstowe Vets! 🧡

Fiona's journey with us is truly inspiring. After qualifying as a Veterinary Nurse in 2003 and graduating from Bristol University in 2004, she joined our team in 2005. Her dedication and exceptional skills led her to take on administrative responsibilities in 2015, and she became our Practice Manager in 2018.

From ensuring our daily operations run seamlessly to supporting both our team and clients, Fiona's organisational skills, compassion, and leadership make everything we do possible. She's the glue that holds our practice together! ✨

Thank you, Fiona, for your 20 years of dedication to Luxstowe Vets and for everything you do to keep our practice running smoothly. We're so grateful to have you! 🐾

💙 Brothers who cuddle together, heal together! 💙

Meet Leo and Shadow, two adorable brother cats who came in yesterday for their neuter surgery. While recovery can be a little uncomfortable, these sweet boys found the best medicines - each other!

Post-op snuggles hit different when it's your best friend (and littermate) by your side. 🐱🐱 Leo and Shadow are doing great and reminding us why the bond between siblings is so special.

Wishing these handsome boys a speedy recovery! They'll be back to their playful selves in no time.

A Reunion Story: Cookie Comes Home!🐱💕

We love sharing happy endings, and this one really touched our hearts!
Cookie, a beloved cat, went missing in December 2024. Cookie was recently found and brought to our surgery. Thanks to her microchip, staff were able to scan it and immediately contact her owners, leading to an joyful reunion.

Stories like Cookie's remind us every day why we're passionate about microchipping.

Why Microchipping Matters:

✅Permanent Identification - Unlike collars and tags that can fall off, a microchip stays with your pet for life

✅Quick Reunions - Any vet clinic or animal shelter an scan for a microchip and contact you within minutes

✅Peace of Mind - If your pet ever goes missing, their microchip significantly increases the changes of them coming home safely

✅Simple & Safe - The procedure is quick, relatively painless (like a routine vaccination), and can be done during a regular appointment

Important reminder: If your pet is already microchipped, please make sure your contact information is up to date. A microchip is only affective if we can reach you.

We're so grateful we could play a part in bringing Cookie home. Every pet deserves the same chance to be reunited with their family.

📞Call us today to schedule a microchipping appointment or for advice on how to update your pet's information.
