โ๏ธ๐ถ Bank Holiday weekend is set to be a hot one, so remember to keep those pooches nice and cool! ๐พโ๏ธ
Here are a few simple ways to help your dogs stay safe in the heat:
๐ถโโ๏ธ Walks
Try to walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Always check the pavement first, place the back of your hand on it for a few seconds. If itโs too hot for you, itโs too hot for their paws.
๐ง Paws & Floor
Provide a cool, hard floor like kitchen tiles or use a pet cooling mat. Check the pavement with the back of your hand before going for a walk.
๐ง Hydration
Add ice cubes to their water bowl. For extra encouragement, freeze dog-safe bone broth, carrots, or water into tasty ice licks.
๐ณ Shade & Airflow
Make sure they always have access to shade outdoors and keep air flowing indoors with fans near their resting spots.
๐ฆบ Cooling Gear
Cooling vests and coats can help regulate body temperature on warmer days.
โ ๏ธ Watch for signs of heatstroke, especially in flat-faced breeds, older dogs, and overweight pets: โข Excessive panting or drooling
โข Extreme lethargy or wobbliness
If you notice these symptoms, move your dog somewhere cool and shaded, offer water, and cool them gradually with cool (not freezing) water and airflow. Seek veterinary advice immediately if symptoms continue.
Stay safe and enjoy the sunshine! โ๏ธ๐
