⭐️ J A Y D E N ⭐️

This little guy has been intermittently lame on his right fore after bursts of intense exercise and also being that little bit older his owner wanted him checked over 🐶

On examination, he had lots of areas of tightness and reduced range of motion in his shoulders.

Here he is receiving some PMF therapy, an electrotherapy used for a range of conditions - here it was set to the vasodilation setting, increasing the blood flow, circulation and nutrients to the affected area 🐕

A regular maintenance session will keep him supple and active!

⭐️ S T O R M ⭐️

Storm has recently been diagnosed with kissing spines - this is where the spaces between the vertebrae reduce to the point where they touch or rub against each other during movement.

🐴 Common indicators 🐴
- Signs of discomfort when being groomed
- Loss of muscle mass across the topline
- Changes to the horses willingness to work
- Struggling to make transitions, especially involving canter
- Reluctance to roll or lie down

It is worth taking note that many horses with kissing spines will lead a healthy working life, showing minimal signs of discomfort 🐎

Storms owners have decided to keep his physio sessions regular to relief any areas of discomfort, keep him supple and reduce stiffness and build up muscle along his topline.
We are working together to build a exercise plan targeted for his diagnosis.

Here he is having a good stretch out after his physio session! 🤍

⭐️ Stretching post exercise (and only when the muscles are warm!) increases flexibility and range of motion, reduces post exercise soreness and stiffness and strengthens muscles and supportive tissues! ⭐️

It’s lovely when owners send me videos of them working on their home exercise programs I set for them!

Here’s Oscar, a lovely lurcher I met last week after he had TPLO surgery to stabilise the stifle joint after a ruptured cruciate ligament. 🐕

After his session, I left him and his owner with some simple sit to stand and weight shifting exercises. These help to increase mobility, flexibility and work on strengthening the quadriceps and hamstrings after surgery means loss of muscle.

Home exercises are a big part of the rehabilitation process between physio sessions so it’s great to see Oscar working so hard! Keep up the good work guys 🥰

Superstar Zanti! ⭐️ 🐾

Zanti’s owner contacted me when she had a collision with another puppy which resulted in her non weight bearing on her left hind.

Yesterday was my second visit to Zanti, previously she was experiencing areas of tightness and had lost muscle mass across her hind limbs.

I left her and her owner a home exercise plan, using a wobble cushion, to continue between visits and they have been doing so well!

Wobble cushions are a great way of encouraging weight shifting, they promote core stability, improve balance and strengthen muscle tone!

Muscle mass has increased on her left hind and she is slowly building herself back up!

Great work guys, see you both in a few weeks! 🐕

The gorgeous Billy performing some lovely stretches after his physio session yesterday! 🐴

He generally has tightness in his hamstrings and neck and these stretches help to increase flexibility, suppleness and joint range of motion!

*Please only stretch your horses when they have warmed up - risk of injury can occur otherwise*

There has been an increase in the number of cases of laminitis over the last few weeks compared to recent years

Due to the unusual spring weather that we have experienced, very wet and very cold, followed by a dry period, the grass growth was delayed. However, over the last couple weeks with the temperatures slowly starting to rise and with the excessive amount of rain we have had, the grass is now growing rapidly! This has resulted in an increase in sugar levels within the grass which means horses and ponies susceptible to laminitis need to be managed carefully 🐴

Speak to your vet for further advice but do try and limit the amount of time they spend grazing this rich grass 🌱 (and maybe feed supplement hay where appropriate)

Meet Billy! 🐴

Billy’s owner contacted me last year regarding stiffness in his hinds. He is pigeon toed and has suffered with hoof issues in the past.

He now has special shoes tailored to his issues - the owner spoke with the farrier and together decided on some lateral support which came at no extra cost!

He was severely obese when I first saw him but his owner has worked incredibly hard to shift the weight, which in turn has significantly helped with his willing to work, hoof issues and stiffness!

Tailoring his exercise program accordingly to make sure his feet were not under too much strain and to engage those hindlimbs, we have added lots of polework, lunging and stretching, whilst changing his diet to help with the weight loss.
(Groundwork was key here to minimise pressure on the hooves!)

I regularly see Billy to help with his stiffness - a mixture of massage techniques, PMFT and stretching are used for this.

Here he is before ... and here he is now!
What a significant difference!

The lovely Hugo enjoying some physiotherapy yesterday afternoon. Here he is having some Pulsed Magnetic Therapy (PMFT) a machine that sends a magnetic field through the tissue to aid the healing process.

He had some areas of tightness along his back and shown previous discomfort in his hock. The machine has a specific setting for pain relief and another for soft tissue treatment.

I think he enjoyed it 💤 🐕
