🐶🐱Vet Nurse Awareness Month — Celebrating the Ones Who Keep the Wheels Turning (and the Wonky Ones Alive)🐱🐶

May is Vet Nurse Awareness Month, and even though I’m no longer a practising RVN, the essence of it never leaves.

Vet nurses are the quiet engine room of every practice — the hands, hearts and heads that keep the vets’ wheels firmly on and turning.
They’re the calm in chaos, the patient advocates, the detail‑spotters, the emotional support for worried owners… and the people who cannot, under any circumstances, be trusted near a stray, a hand‑rear, or anything with a limb pointing in the wrong direction.

If there’s a three‑legged cat?
An RVN already has it.

A one‑eyed terrier with a mysterious past and a vendetta against postmen?
Living on an RVN’s sofa.

A rabbit that requires a spreadsheet, a whiteboard, and a PhD to medicate?
Already adopted. Already insured. Already has a personalised Christmas stocking.

Vet nurses don’t choose the wonky ones — the wonky ones simply sense the soft heart, the clinical competence, and the complete lack of self‑preservation… and they move in.

To every RVN out there:
Thank you for showing up, for caring deeply, for doing the unseen work, and for being the backbone of our profession.
Once an RVN, always an RVN — and I’ll always be cheering you on.

And finally, to all the nurses I’ve worked with and/or trained over the years — it was an honour.
