The old playbook — keeping rates high to “fight inflation” — lies in ruins: today’s price pressures stem overwhelmingly from global conflicts and energy shocks, not excess domestic demand. Constraining spending achieves nothing when prices are being driven by forces beyond the MPC’s control; wages stay suppressed in a struggling economy that can’t absorb them anyway. High rates have become pointless economic self-harm that primarily props up the City and bond markets at everyone else’s expense. It’s time for real change. Many thanks to Ian West Lancs K9 Splash & Hydro for letting me shoot at the Pool today and for everyone who attended and allowed me to capture photos of your fabulous pooches.
