🐾 ATTENTION PET PARENTS: IF IT’S TOO HOT FOR YOUR HAND, IT’S TOO HOT FOR THEIR PAWS! 🐾
With the temperatures soaring this week, we want to urge all our lovely clients to leave your dogs at home and skip the walks.
It might feel nice and breezy to you, but your dog is experiencing the heat in a completely different way. Here is why going outside right now is dangerous:
🔴 concrete and tarmac act like an oven: Ground temperatures can easily be 20 to 30 degrees hotter than the air temperature! When it's a sunny 25°C outside, the tarmac can hit a searing 52°C. That is hot enough to cause severe, painful second-degree burns on their sensitive paw pads in just a few minutes.
🔴 They can't sweat: Unlike us, dogs can't sweat through their skin to cool down. They rely on panting, which becomes highly ineffective in hot, humid weather. This can lead to life-threatening heat stroke incredibly fast.
👇 TRY THE 7-SECOND TEST BEFORE YOU GO OUT:
Place the back of your bare hand firmly on the pavement. If you can’t comfortably hold it there for 7 full seconds, it is way too hot for a walk.
🌟 What to do instead today:
Ditch the midday walk: Stick to the very early morning or late evening when the ground has had time to cool.
🐾Keep bathroom breaks short: Pop them out onto shaded grass for a quick toilet break, then bring them right back inside.
🐾Ditch the walks entirely: Afews day without a walk won’t hurt them, but a walk in this heat could. Keep them mentally stimulated inside with puzzle toys, lick mats, or indoor training games instead!
