I’m a big advocate of scent sports for your dogs. Their nose is their biggest asset and brain work is more tiring than physical exercise. Me and my dog are graduates of this course. And with only two spaces left, I’d get your skates on and secure your place quickly. Lisa from Helping Hounds Dog Training Academy is an incredible instructor 🐾

Favourite deaf rescue Finlay was back on the field as soon as it opened this morning, thanks to a kind anon donation. He spent his time doing what he does best: a bit of exploring, a bit of zooming and a lot of lying in the long grassy enrichment area to keep cool.

As his long-term fosterer put it:

“You may remember recently when Finlay decided he wasn’t ready to leave the field and instead ran to the furthest corner and refused to leave or be caught. To avoid these shenanigans happening again, I bought the longest longline I could find (200ft) and he’s now enjoying darting around the field but can now be collected when it’s time for home without any stress to him or me.”

So thanks to anon, Rochdale Dog Rescue and the tactical genius of his fosterer, Finlay can enjoy the freedom of the field.

Turns out the only thing longer than Finlay’s recall strike, is his new longline 😳

I really don’t like having to post things like this, but it needs saying.

Please stop leaving piles of dog hair on the field after grooming your dogs.

This is not the first time I’ve had to clear up huge amounts of it. And tonight I spent half an hour on my hands and knees picking it all up again. It doesn’t magically disappear, and despite what some people seem to think, the birds are not taking it away. It stays exactly where it’s left.

There are bins provided. Please bag it and put it in them.

I take a huge amount of pride in keeping this field clean, tidy and enjoyable for everybody. And it’s incredibly frustrating and inconsiderate having to repeatedly clean up after other people.

Please show some respect for the field and for other users. Thank you.

Dotty may have arrived with a mystery backstory, but she’s writing a pretty great next chapter.

Found as a stray and now living her best life, this approximately two-year-old sweetheart was at the field again yesterday, thanks to another generous donation from The Dog Cabin, Doggy Day Care.

From mastering the equipment to enjoying a sniffari through the long grassy enrichment area, Dotty confidently followed the paths like a pro explorer.

She’s still looking for her forever home with Homeless Hounds - Dogs In Need, but until then her fosterer and big brother are showing her that life isn’t just good… it’s pawsome 🐾❤️

A twilight appointment for a twilight little lady this evening. Although looking at some of the photos, you’d think she was still a puppy.

Molly is 17 years old, blind and thanks to another incredibly kind donation from anon, this long term foster girl, rescued by Rochdale Dog Rescue, was back enjoying the field again this evening.

Seeing photos like these, makes me so glad I have both the long grassy areas and the paths cut through them. The long grass provides amazing scent enrichment, while the paths make it easier for dogs and people to explore safely and confidently. And Molly made full use of them this evening.

Her fosterer sent me this message:

“I feel like I’m in some exotic place tonight, it is absolutely beautiful. I can't begin to imagine how wonderful it is for Molly, to be 17 years old, and getting to experience such a range of smells, textures and just enjoy the feeling of the sun on her face, wind through her mohawk with the freedom of uninterrupted safety to explore”

Sometimes it’s the quiet evenings, the happy sniffs and the gentle rescue souls enjoying them, that remind you exactly why safe spaces like this matter so much. Thanks again anon 🐾❤️

Everyone’s favourite deaf Collie Finlay was back at the field this week thanks to the support of anon 🐾

Finlay is in long term foster thanks to Rochdale Dog Rescue and according to his incredible fosterer, something about the slightly longer grassy area and a bit of rain turned him into an absolute lunatic in the best possible way. He spent the entire session running flat out around the field and through the long grass at speeds they genuinely have never seen from him before. 😂

For a dog who can’t safely be off lead anywhere else, having the field to release energy makes such a difference to his life. Especially when he appears to currently be powered entirely by Duracell 😉. The grass he carries in his mouth is nothing to worry about by the way. It’s his comfort blanket.

The only downside was trying to get him back in the car afterwards. Unfortunately for everyone involved, Finlay decided he actually lived at the field now.

The next booking ended up delayed while negotiations took place with Finlay, who had absolutely no intention of ending his zoomies voluntarily.

Thankfully they were very understanding and I extended the next session to make up for it ❤️

Thanks so much again anon. You’re amazing 🐾

Meet handsome little Cooper a cracking Pomeranian x Chinese Crested boy, aged 4 years old. With his beautiful long white coat and teeny tiny size, he’s a special little chap.

Lucky Cooper is currently in foster with Tracy Flowers under the care of Rochdale Dog Rescue. And yesterday he got to enjoy some quality time out on the field with some of the pack, all thanks to the kind donation from The Dog Cabin, Doggy Day Care.

Tracy told me:

“Little Cooper loved the freedom of the field yesterday! He has been a timid little boy so we are working on his confidence. And this session really helped, as he learned to follow along with the others and have space to explore!”

Seeing him begin to relax, explore and enjoy himself was so lovely. Every little step forward is a big win for this little boy.

Thank you to everyone who helps make these special moments possible for dogs like Cooper 🐾❤️
