Guineas’ Story – Part 2 💙
Following on from part one, Guineas returned to us for a second surgery. This time, Becky performed a skin graft after removing a significant amount of non-viable (dead) tissue from the wound.
After the procedure, Guineas became a very regular visitor! She came in daily so our team could carefully manage her recovery. This included frequent bandage changes, which were especially important to maintain the right level of pressure and give the skin graft the best possible chance of success.
Alongside this, we used cold compressing and even trialled laser therapy to support healing and reduce inflammation.
Guineas slowly began to trust us. Day by day, we built a bond with her, turning what started as nervous visits into moments of comfort and familiarity. She even got to the point where she would walk straight through the door and take herself off to her bed, as if she knew she was safe here.
Moments like that mean everything to us. They remind us why we do what we do. Earning Guineas’ trust and friendship has been one of the most rewarding parts of her journey.
Despite everyone’s best efforts, the graft unfortunately didn’t fully take. While much of it showed promise, there was an area (around 4–10 cm) that wasn’t healthy enough to survive.
After careful consideration, the decision was made to remove the remaining non-viable tissue and allow the wound to heal naturally through second intention.
Guineas has been incredibly brave throughout this journey, and we’re so proud of how well she’s coping 💙
Make sure to follow her journey and come back for Part 3, where we’ll share the next stage of her recovery.
