‼️UPDATE – BLUETONGUE ‼️
Two new cases of BTV-3 have been confirmed on 11 July 2025.
• Two cattle were confirmed positive in Herefordshire following a non-negative pre-movement test 🐮
• One sheep in Oxfordshire was confirmed positive following a report of suspicious clinical signs - the sheep had hot and painful feet, reluctance to move and was generally unwell 🐑
These represent the first cases of BTV-3 in Great Britain during the 2025 to 2026 vector season. 🇬🇧
The risk of transmission via infected midges is now considered to be very high in England 📈
Bluetongue typical clinical signs can include fever, lethargy, and swelling of the face, lips, tongue, and head as well as abortions. 🩺
However clinical signs can be vague with animals just appearing unwell that have tested positive so speak to us if concerned. 👀
**Bluetongue is a notifiable disease meaning it must be reported to APHA if suspected. 📣
**Vaccination is the main control we have in place ‼️
Many of our farms have already vaccinated. Now the risk level has increased locally, those who have not vaccinated and may wish to we suggest getting in touch via our whats app channel or contact the surgery for a discussion about vaccination. 💉
