My wife’s big lad benefitting from a 4 week shoeing schedule, all 18hh+ of him needs regular shoeing to maintain his ginormous feet for showjumping (so grateful she buys GIANT young horses😂🤦🏼‍♀️)

Shergar — the champion stolen from the world... forever.
This isn’t just a story about a famous racehorse. It’s one of the greatest sporting tragedies that has ever shaken the world.

Born to fly, made to win
Shergar was born in 1978 — majestic, powerful, graceful. Owned by the Aga Khan himself, he quickly rose to stardom.
In 1981, he won the Epsom Derby by a staggering 10 lengths — a record-breaking victory no one could forget.
After a string of triumphs, he was retired to stud in Ireland, destined to sire a new generation of champions...

But instead of green pastures and peace — came shock and headlines.

The kidnapping that shook the world
On February 8, 1983, armed men in masks stormed Ballymany Stud. At gunpoint, the groom was forced to lead Shergar into a trailer… and the horse vanished.
A £2 million ransom was demanded, but negotiations fell apart. Shergar was never seen again.

What really happened?
Search efforts spanned across countries. But no sign of him was ever found. Only theories remained:
▪️ he died during transport
▪️ he was executed after negotiations failed
▪️ he was secretly buried in an unknown location

Suspicions pointed to the IRA — but the truth has never been proven…

Only memory remains… and pain.
His story inspired films, books, investigations. But most of all — it reminded the world that even the most magnificent creatures are not safe from cruelty.

Shergar — a champion we’ll never see again,
but one we’ll never forget.
His spirit still gallops through the racetracks of our memory.

Lady Clemi getting fitted up for a pair of Flex horse hoof boots today. She is a young mare doing some more work and has started feeling the hard ground. Boots can be a good option when shoes are not quite needed yet.

A sudden change in the ground conditions means that pad season is upon us !

A correctly applied pads can offer big comfort and performance gains.

Some signs your horse or pony could benefit from some extra help are,

Footy on the hard ground
Shortened gait or stride
Loss of confidence landing after jumps or take off.
Joint soreness or stiffness after cross country
Lack of enthusiasm for work

These are just a few signs to keep an eye out for, and if you think your horse could benefit from a little helping hand with pads, please feel free to call or message to chat about options.

My background

I grew up in an equine environment through my mother and uncle having horses, i learnt to ride at a young age with my four siblings but I had always been fascinated by the farrier shoeing , trimming the horses and ponies.

Once I finished school I completed my pre-farrier course at Hereford College of Technology.I then started my apprenticeship with Billy Crothers 2008 whilst going to college at Myerscough School of Farriery and obtaining my Diploma from the worshipful company of farriers in March 2014. Staying on working with Billy for 2 1/2 years then set up my own company before the birth of my son Jacob in 2016. My company is based in Soulbury just outside of Leighton buzzard I am mostly mobile but do have customers come to my forge at home if they are outside my travel radius. All types of shoeing and barefoot trimming is undertaken by myself. I am lucky enough to shoe many high level competition horses, I was awarded best shod horse at the Badminton Horse trials in 2019 on the horse Call Me Maggie May ridden by Izzy Taylor 🇬🇧 I feel very privileged to the first person to also win this award using modern materials, she was shod using 3rd millennium frog pads and anti concussion material underneath which keeps her sound and comfortable throughout the season. This was one of my life goals when growing up.
