Grass Seed Season is Here… Please Check Your Dogs!
We are seeing more dogs coming into the salon with grass seeds caught in their coats. Although they may look harmless, grass seeds can cause painful injuries and infections if they're left unnoticed.
Please check your dog regularly, especially after walks:
• Between the toes and paw pads
• Inside and around the ears
• Around the eyes
• Under the armpits
• Around the groin and tail
• In long or fluffy coats
Signs your dog may have a grass seed include:
• Excessive licking of a paw
• Head shaking or scratching at the ears
• Squinting or rubbing an eye
• Sneezing repeatedly
• Swelling, redness or limping
If you notice any of these signs, contact your vet as soon as possible. Grass seeds can work their way under the skin and cause serious problems if left untreated.
At the salon, we will always let you know if we find any grass seeds or areas of concern during your dog's groom. Keeping coats well maintained can also help reduce the risk.
