I have taken a break for a few days to recharge the batteries and to teach the next generation.."the love of animals". As you can see Tarquin is a firm favourite. Due to days off, my diary is very busy, please try and work with me if you would like salt appointments, it's very rare for me to have any time off during the summer season due to a lot of horses struggling, but my batteries were empty. I think I have worked through my booking in list, but if there is anyone that's still awaiting a reply or an appointment time, please do message me a reminder, with my diary this afternoon into the evening, it will be all Salt systems go now until Xmas. www.katiebfrisby.co.uk/salt-therapy
The final preparations are being put in place for Lewis to run at Edgcote on Sunday, so I headed over to give him his first of two salt sessions today and to drop The Stars and Diamonds Racing Club colours off for the racing bag to be packed. Of course all this was after, Elara had been introduced to them, with Tarquin seen in the background explaining what they were for, I expect. It's very strange to think the next time she will see them is when her jockey is wearing them for her first race next year.
The racing colours have a triple diamond on the front and back, in black on the yellow, and these 3 diamonds are also represented in my business logo with the triple diamonds being yellow on the black

There is no better way to annoy your farrier, than bringing horses in with muddy, wet, cold legs. So a scheduled day in for everyone today, as we await the farriers arrival this afternoon. The sun's out again and today is the turn of mumma Star to have a snooze., you can see where Elara gets her sleeping from.

Rosie is a firm favourite at Witham Villa Equestrian Centre so a few years ago when her breathing started to stuffer due to no exercise throughout covid and dust from the nearby building site, the lovely Ali messaged me to say can I help. Rosie is a cob and has a vital role in the centre for beginners, so what ever lessons she was able to do when her breathing in controlled is a bonus . Yes she has bad weeks and good weeks, but every year she gets better and better. Last year she struggled in the heat of the summer, this year she has been brilliant all year with a small blip last month when she had to stop lessons due to the temperature going from one extreme to the other, but with the help of regular salt therapy sessions to clear the lungs and a low dose of steroids, she is helping those that come to Witham enjoy their lessons. Once Rosie has hoovered all the haylage up in the stable I salt her in, she relaxes into her sessions and has a snooze Inbetween sneezing and clearing her nose. Keep up the good work Rosie teaching everyone to ride.

I hope everyone affected by the floods, equine and human are all ok and on safe ground. The rain meant one thing a duvet day, were Elara had a go with her new magnetic rug on. She isn't keen on the sensation and feeling it gives out, but after a little word from her Uncle Tarquin, who loves his rug, she was happy eating her hay. Elara is very expressive when processing and understanding new things, she isn't biting the rug she mouths on it to claim herself down, this behaviour I am very used to now as she is 2 and a half. The magnetics increase blood flow which will help with muscle tension and tightness in Elara as she continues to grow. A big thank you to all at Brook Farm Woodhouse Eaves , it's a new shop opened up in Woodhouse Eaves with a great range of premier equine items (coats, saddle pads, boots) that you are able to see in person rather than an image online, they also have feed and utensils and can order anything in, that you may need. If your passing do pop in for a nose.
Some times I wish there were extra hours in the day or more days in the week. While the car was in for new tyres today, I had lots of admin plans. I didn't get threw half that I wanted to do. I am sorry, those waiting on appointments I will be in touch with you very soon. Currently sat with Lewis having his final salt session before racing at Market Rasen tomorrow. Late finishes are worth it when I see this face enjoying 'his' salt machine.

Even a first for me.....I know the machine isn't scary but 2 year Rolo was that relaxed he fancied a snooze during his salt top up session. He has seen the machine before so understood what it was all about. Great video of the salt surrounding him while sleeping, helping with his itch skin.

Having just walked in after a very busy day today, covering Milton Keynes and Northamptonshire, the day saw me sit on the m1 for an hour due to an incident. As most will know I do work 7 days a week, 10+ hours a day, some times we go about our daily lives and not stopping to have a think about things or to stop and see the world around you. So for me to be made to just sit in the car, was actually an hour of calm that I now feel better for, fate has a funny way of giving you things to benefit you in life . Thank you to all my clients today for the understanding of my lateness. My last stop later than expected was to treat a regular clients horse who has summer allergies, but we had the added excitement of flight training and feed time for the swallows during our salt session.
# Take time in your day just to sit and watch the world around you. You will feel better for it.

Rosie has breathing problems and I have been salting her regularly for around a year now. Over the last 3 weeks poor Rosie has been suffering with the dreaded lami. Vicky her owner let me know as Rosie being stood in on box rest really wasn't helping her breathing. I said I would come and help, knowing salt therapy would increase the oxygen uptake within the lungs, therefore would increase oxygen in the bloodstream within the lami in the feet, increasing healing rates and lami recovery time. Grand national day 15th April, I treated her and she wasn't happy at all, very uncomfortable, not wanting to move, so quiet and depressed, already on two bute a day and stood Infront of the machine breathing in as much salt as she could (1st video). I went to see her yesterday with reports that after the first session she had perked up, was a lot happier and moving around more. Yesterday's session 'Rosie was back' fidgeting, eating her hay, not wanting to stand still.....it was so nice to see her spirit back and being her usual self, and as sound as she can be. This isn't the first horse I have helped improve lami symptoms and I am sure it won't be the last. Please be careful of the sugars in the grass during this time, stressed grass is the worst.

8 months after a throat operation, the day came yesterday to take Lewis (Culverwell) back to Martin Keighley Racing Ltd . I have seen so much negativity over the weekend regarding horse racing and the grand national, it puts a massive downer on all involved within the horse racing industry when they read the comments, including myself as an owner and syndicate manager. I can only speak for yards I have worked on and had horses at, but racehorses are cared for and treated so well and would not race unless they wanted to. Lewis could have given up in his races last season, knowing now that he only had 20% of his wind pipe clear to get oxygen in to his lungs, but he didn't, he tried his little heart out. He is a horse that is a true out and out racehorse, he wants to race, I am not sure what we will do if he can't race so after his throat op, I had to give him the chance again to be that race horse he deserves to be, it was so nice to have a phone call from the trainer this evening, which went something like this....
'Hi Katie, you've sent me the wrong horse.......he has cantered once up the gallops this morning, he looks a million dollars, he was full of himself acting like a 3yr old, not 12 yr old, gig jogging everywhere, I am so pleased with him this morning."
Hearing how well he went today, makes the decision of putting him back in training the right thing to do.The little pocket rocket is back with avengeance and has a point to prove, Show them what you can do Lewis.

You wouldn't go sking without your shades on, So a snow day, means Tarquin has his full tinted shades on, to stop the glare of the snow.
🌟 We have had 3 - 4 inches of snow here in Leicestershire and it's still coming, I will be in touch with all salt clients for tomorrow and over the weekend. I am just taking it an hour by hour at the moment, keeping an eye on the forecast. If you are a definite no go, please do message me and we can rearrange. Thanks Katie
What do you do for the horse that has given you so much along our 10 year journey together...My Assistant Trainer to Star, Carumba and Lewis and now Uncle T to a very special little person, Tarquin has never asked for anything, it's my turn to help him. Tarquinius now 20yrs has suffered from Cataracts for a few years on and off as his eyes change, we do all the normal things you would expect, talking to him when your close and approaching him from his good side, his trust is amazing. It was a beautiful day last week the sun was shining as it was going down, which caused Tarquin to not see anything.. not even Elara and he started to panic, frantically running around. We managed to get Elara out of his field and once he knew she was safe he calmed down. Fast forward a week with a lot of research and speaking to a few friends I know who's horses suffer similar issues. May I introduce 'Super T' not 'Ali G' all thanks to Equivizor.co.uk Tarquin has a pair of clear UV protection goggles for darker days and dark tinted shades for the summer sunshine. We are still in early days but to see his ears prick up when he looks out into the sun with his darker shades on, gives me a little hope, he also seems happier with the clear ones on in the paddock, walking around alot more but that may have something to do with Elara having the best game ever of try to get Uncle T's googles off. There are others on the market in forms of a fly mask but felt these were better for him with clear lens, 95% UV blocked will hopefully stop the cataracts getting worse or at least slow the process down and block out the glare of the sun. They come with a fly mask to go over the top for the summer which will also help with the flies. They were not cheap but he is worth it, to see him happier and not worrying and struggling whilst teaching a very important racehorse of the future.

What do you do when a horse can't have a high sugary lick because of his EMS and diabetes. Is not interested in boring soaked hay and takes your fingers off when you hand feed nuts...... well you give them an empty container. This is Maverick showing you how fun it can be. Maverick, as long as your breathing the salt in, to help you breathing and asthma, I don't mind how you entertain yourself.

This week at the yard saw Sophie O'Connor - Equine Rehabilitation and Sports Massage Therapist
come to give the horses readings on Monday and massage sessions on Wednesday. Technology was also used, Red light on Elara's scar, Ultrasound for Star's injection sites and massage gun for Lewis' tight back before he starts his work. The youngest of the gang realised that she is a little too young for the massage gun at the moment. A very big thank you to Sophie O'Connor who has been checking in with all the horses on the yard especially Star since we lost Orion to allow them time to make sense and understand what happened. I first meet Sophie when I was having major problems with the 4 year old hormonal mess that was Starlette, over the last 8 years, Sophie has been a regular to the yard as well as doing photo readings. If you have a horse your struggling with or just interested in what your animal has to say, to allow you to learn about their personality do message Sophie. 🦄🌟🐴🐎 🐮🪐💫

Meet Nemo, I have been salting him for many years now, he suffers from the breathing condition COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) I haven't treated him for a few months due to his owner having alot of commitments at home. I saw him yesterday and he definitely needed his salt therapy session, he stood perfectly to inhale as much salt as he could, if Nemo felt he didn't need a session he would normally back away from the machine and not stand still. Nearing the end of his session he fancied a few minutes on the salt lick too, which his owner said he has never touched before. I love seeing horses I treat really benefit from their salt sessions and know that it does really help their breathing, skin conditions or other aliments that the salt works wonders on.

Plenty of firsts there for Light of Elara. There was me worrying she hasn't been up the lane to see the world since she has been back home having spent the last 5 months in a field with youngsters her own age at summer camp. But there has been plenty to see and learn at home. All photos and video can be seen on Katie B. Frisby profile. www.katiebfrisby.co.uk
