Grass seeds! We all hate them right? Especially if your dog has long or curly hair, they're a right pain to remove!

But sometimes, grass seeds can get lodged in the skin or in hard to reach places!

Our own dog Rudi, on a late evening walk last week, went running through long uncut grass. When he came back out, he was shaking his head and wimpering when we touched his right ear.

We suspected a pesky grass seed. Que a visit to the vets! 🥴🫠

Rudi had got a type of grass seed (commonly known as a 'foxtail') lodged right down his ear canal. Unfortunately it had lodged so well in his ear because of the barbs on the seed, it had caused quite severe inflammation, meaning he was in too much pain to have the seed removed by tweezers. So he had to be put under sedation to have the seed properly removed.

Unfortunately it is just one of those things when a seed gets lodged in the ear. But this is a reminder to scan your dogs after a walk,to find any seeds hanging around, and prevent any making their way into unwanted places, before they cause too much damage!

The vet told me that day, that Rudi was the 4th dog that day to need a seed removing from their ear! It really is the season for it.

So some of you may not know, but I am insured for, and offer, pet taxi services. A couple of weeks ago I had the privilege of collecting the newly adopted Rocky from Woodside, for his new pawrents. Such a pretty lad!
