Lovely scenery on the Cauldon canal not to far from the site

It's a question we are asked regularly. How to drive a narrowboat in reverse. So, during our canal ride to Cheddleton on the Caldon Branch of the Trent & Mer...

This beautiful house is in the very small Peak District hamlet of Derwent, one of only a handful of homes spared when the area was flooded in the creation of Ladybower Reservoir. It’s such a wonderful little scene, I always stop to admire it when I pass, and yesterday I heard my first cuckoo of the year here too, and saw my first swallow. Summer is on its way! - Suzanne

This is the oh-so-pretty bridge over the River Derwent in the little Peak District village of Froggatt, where it has been entrancing everyone since the late 17th Century. It looked particularly beautiful in the late afternoon light, the river banks strewn with the white flecks of wood anemones. - Suzanne

Peaceful scenes on Cromford Canal 💚🍃 With five miles of gorgeous towpath to explore, a wander on the canal takes in pretty canal-side cottages, two tunnels and bridges, and an aqueduct taking the canal over the River Derwent at the heart of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site 🌳

This snap was captured near the village of Whatstandwell 🏡

You've probably heard of the Peak District's iconic Monsal Trail, but head a little further north and you'll discover the peaceful Clowne Greenway 😮

This tranquil traffic-free trail runs for 6.5 miles from Creswell in North East Derbyshire to the pretty Poolsbrook Country Park via an old railway line 🚴

This is the view down to High Peak Junction at dawn, just as the rising sun clears the trees and sends its first strike of light into the dark tunnel. I've wanted to catch this view for a long while, even though it meant a shudderingly early start! - Suzanne

High Peak Junction, just on the edge of the Peak District near Cromford, marks the spot at which the Cromford Canal met the former Cromford & High Peak Railway, running from 1830 until 1967. Now you'll find a Visitor Information Centre here and beautifully preserved heritage railway and canal architecture.

The Peak District village of Castleton is full of little narrow lanes lined with old stone cottages, and around every corner you can chance upon scenes that look suspended in time, as if they haven't changed much for centuries. This is the steep hill leading down to Peak Cavern, the entrance to which you can just see on the left behind the houses. - Suzanne

🤓 Peak Geek fact ahoy: Until as recently as 1915, Peak Cavern was the home of the last cave-dwellers in the UK. A group of rope-makers lived inside the mouth of the cave and sold their wares to villagers. Unlike other caverns in Castleton, which were formed by mining, Peak Cavern is almost entirely natural. It’s also the largest cave system in the Peak District.

This is the beautiful Dorothy Vernon bridge in the grounds of Haddon Hall, with the banks of the River Wye strewn with daffodils. Spring is well and truly blooming all over the Peak District now, and it's wonderful to see. - Suzanne

Note, Haddon Hall is reopening to visitors from 20 June this year, and the wildlife walks in Haddon Medieval Park start from mid July.

This evening's sunset up at Carhead Rocks and we heard one of the first signals of Spring, the call of the Curlew. ~Phil~

Is anybody else daydreaming of Summer?! This is the lovely village of Tissington last year, with the resident ducks having a little waddle over the road to the duckpond. Tissington is such a perfect Peak District place to explore, whether you're a human or a duck. - Suzanne

Winter in the Peak District is every bit as beautiful as Summer, as you can see from this wonderful shot of a frosty sunrise above the little Peak District village of Baslow.
