THE POWER OF MICROCHIPPING

We reunited this little lady with her owner after 8 long years of been missing 💖😥. It was only due to her having a microchip that we were able to trace her owners and let them know that we had her and she was safe. Her owner said she had gone out one day, as she usually does, but never returned 😥. They feared the worse and after trying to find her for a while, they decided to never get another cat in case this happened again as they were so heartbroken! There were smiles and tears all round as they were finally reunited again after all this time.
We cannot stress the importance of making sure your pets chip details are correct and upto date. It is also now a legal requirement for all dogs AND cats to be chipped.

Having worked closely with Sheila and the amazing team at Cat Action Trust 1977 Leeds for many years, we were very saddened to hear of her passing.
Please take a look at their page/website if you are thinking of adopting a cat or could offer a space for a long term foster/short term placement. They are in a desperate situation.
Thankyou ❤️

💔We have had a cat brought in this morning who has sadly been in a road traffic accident and has passed away💔
He is an all black neutered male, no collar or chip. He was found just off Wetherby Road near the Montessori nursery.
Please get in touch if you think he is your cat

Rabbits are social animals, they like to live with a friend or in groups, but should be neutered to prevent unwanted litters!

Never keep rabbits and guinea pigs together as they have different food and housing requirements and could fight!

🧹 How to clean your rabbits housing 🧹

Your rabbits housing will need regular cleaning. This includes their hutch, sleeping area and exercise area. Rabbit safe cleaning supplies are avaliable online or at most pet shops.

Do a spot check everday and dispose of any wet or dirty materials including bedding and uneaten food.
Each week remove and replace all their litter and bedding.
Once a month give their enclosure a thorough deep clean by taking everthing out and using a rabbit friendly cleaner.

🐰 WHAT DO MY RABBITS NEED IN THEIR ENCLOSURE? 🐰

Rabbits are prey animals so they need places to hide such as:
🔸️Tunnels
🔸️Cardboard boxes
🔸️Low stools
🔸️ Platforms

Rabbits are very clever and so we must enrich their day-to-day lives with toys and playtime, this can include:
🔸️Willow balls
🔸️Puzzle feeders
🔸️Tunnels
🔸️Boxes
🔸️Dig boxes
🔸️Turf trays
🔸️Snuffle matts

Rabbits need access to high quality hay or fresh grass at all times. Hay racks are a good option for their housing. You can also put feeding hay into piles so they can burrow.

Make sure your rabbits sleeping and toileting area are separate as they like to have a clean environment. You can use newspaper, hay/straw or paper litter for their litter box.

Today is all about rabbit housing 🏠

Whether they live indoors or outdoors, the fundamentals of rabbit housing are the same. A minimum enclosure size for two rabbits is 3m x 2m x 1m high.

If you have an indoor or outdoor rabbit, they need lots of space and access to a sleeping area, toilet area and exercise area at all times 🐰💗

Rabbits need to be able to lie stretched out and hop at least three times. Their space allows them to display all their natural behaviours including: running, jumping, digging, foraging and rearing up.

🙌🏻 Did you know that you can train your rabbit? 🙌🏻

You can train them to fetch, go back to their hutch, respond to their name and use a litter tray 💗

One great way to train a new behaviour is by clicker training - there is a lot of information over at https://rabbitawarenessactiongroup.co.uk if you want to learn more!

🐇 Understanding Rabbit Behaviour 🐇

Here are some common rabbit behaviours and how they communicate.

BINKY - when rabbits jump and twist in the air, it is called a binky, it means they are feeling happy and playful!
EARS - when rabbits ears are up, something has got their attention or they are on alert. When their ears are back, they are feeling relaxed.
LICKING - rabbits show affection by licking each other and their owners!
BITING - a small nip can be a warning sign or they want your attention. A hard bite can be a sign of fear or stress.
TEETH GRINDING - soft and gentle grinding (similar to a cat purring) is a sign of contentment. Loud grinding can mean they are in pain and need to see a vet ASAP!
THUMPING - a way of communicating that there is danger around. It can also be a sign of annoyance.

Today we will be posting all about rabbit behaviour!

Rabbits can be a great addition to the family 💚. Once they get to know you, they can be very friendly and affectionate. Understanding what your rabbit is trying to tell you is a good way to bond together.

Rabbits are prey animals, so they naturally will run and hide if they are scared. At first they may be shy, but with patience and regular interaction, you will soon become friends 💚.

🐰 Rabbit Health Check 🐰

Giving your rabbit a quick health check regularly is a great way to spot any signs of ill health early. Plus regular handling will help you bond with your bunny.

You should groom your rabbit daily (but avoid washing with water). This gives the perfect opportunity to check them over 🥰.

🐰 Check their whole body for lumps and bumps
🐰 Their ears should be free from mites and fleas and their eyes should be clear and shiny with no discharge
🐰 Their bottom should always be clean to help prevent flystrike
🐰 Nails should not be overgrown (if they are please seek the advice of your vet)
🐰 Keep an eye on their teeth to make sure they are not overgrown and there is no excessive drooling (but be careful - they could bite!)

Some signs and symptoms can be life threatening, and so if you notice any of the following, seek veterinary care straight away:

⚠️ Rapid or difficulty breathing
⚠️ Diarrhoea
⚠️ Not eating/drinking
⚠️ Not passing caecotrophs/normal droppings
⚠️ Wet fur/droppings stuck to bottom along with wounds and sores with visable fly eggs

We offer free veterinary consultations on our healthcare plan. It also includes unlimited nails trims!

Dont forget to invest in good quality pet insurance for your rabbit too
