💊Repeat medication💊

With Monday being a bank holiday our deliveries will take a little bit longer next week, so if your pet is due some medication, please get this ordered by midday on Thursday at the latest to give us enough time to order the medication and get it to us. 🐝

💉National Science week Day 5 🩸

Glucometer

This machine might look very familiar to some, and it does the exact same, it is to test blood sugar levels in our pets, for conditions such as Diabetes.

The goal of a diabetes treatment plan is to regulate the amount of glucose in your pet’s blood so their body has enough energy to function properly. AlphaTrak 3 makes testing and tracking your pet’s glucose levels a simple experience.

Results are ready in 5 seconds or less which helps when coming up with a treatment plan for your pet. 🐝

🔬National Science week Day 4🩸

Epoc Machine

The epoc (Enterprise Point-of-Care) system is a blood analysis system that tests for a wide range of analytes to assess a patient's blood gas, electrolyte, and metabolite (BGEM) levels. It provides rapid, lab-quality results at the patient's side, enabling quick clinical decisions.
Here's a breakdown of what the epoc system tests for:
Blood Gas: pH, pCO2 (partial pressure of carbon dioxide), pO2 (partial pressure of oxygen), and TCO2 (total carbon dioxide).
Electrolytes: Sodium, potassium, and ionized calcium.
Metabolites: Glucose, lactate, and potentially others like creatinine and BUN (blood urea nitrogen).
Hematocrit: Indicates the proportion of red blood cells in the blood.
Chloride: Helps regulate the body's acid-base balance.

This is all done in house so that we can get the results to you as quick as possible for the fastest treatment course. 🐝

🔬National Science Week Day 3🧫

Urine Tests

For Urine tests we use our own in house SediVue machine so that we can get the results back to you as soon as possible.

The IDEXX SediVue Dx Urine Sediment Analyzer can identify and quantify various elements in urine samples, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), bacteria (rods and cocci), and various crystals (struvite, calcium oxalate dihydrate, ammonium biurate, bilirubin, and unclassified). It also detects and identifies bacteria, including rods and cocci. The analyzer uses a neural network and captures high-resolution images to aid in identification and analysis.

🩺National Science Week Day 2🧬

The Pulse Oximeter machine

Today we are looking at the Pulse Ox machine, which may look familiar to those who have had their pulse and oxygen saturation checked at the GP or hospital, and it does the same thing. Although, where the machine is placed may be slightly different.

It measures your pets pulse and oxygen saturation while they are with us, either under anaesthetic, sedation or if they are just feeling a little bit poorly. 🐝

🩸National Science Week Day 1💉

Blood tests; We run most of our tests in house, which means that the results are back to quicker than the GP!

What blood tests can we run and what for?
Haematology - Runs a full blood count
Bio Chemistry - Checks Liver and Kidney Function
Electrolytes - Checks Electrolyte levels

We test all these on our inhouse Catalyst One machine and our in house ProCyte One Machine. 🐝

🔬National Science Week🧪

9-16 August 2025 is National Science week.

A lot of the work that goes on behind the scenes at the practice is to do with lab machines and testing.

For the next week we are going to share some information about the tests that we carry out and the machines that are used for those tests. 🐝

🌟 Star of the week 🌟

Nancy is our star of the week this week after being with us for her keyhole spay.

She has been such a good girl and was so calm before and after her procedure she even posed for her picture.

Keyhole spays have a quicker recovery time so we have no doubt that Nancy will be back to running around d in no time 🐝

✨Happy Post Alert✨

Everybody meet Connie!

Connie was brought into us at Beehive Vets by a member of the public as she was hanging around in the lady's garden for a few days. She was brought in to us to scan for a microchip!

Connie did have a chip so we contacted her owner who told us she had been missing for 11weeks to the day!

Poor Connie got spooked and escaped her carrier when her owner was taking her to her local vets for her booster. She has strayed quite away from home in the 11 weeks she has been missing!

Thanks to her owner having Connie's microchip details up to date we could reunite her and she is now at home safe and sound! Her owner couldn't be more thankful!

This story really does advocate keeping your pets microchip up to date so we can have a happy ending! 🐝
