One of the things I've found the hardest throughout my career...
..is convincing new puppy owners that preventing problems is WAY EASIER than fixing them later!
Most of the time folks don't even realise that they're unintentionally setting themselves up for a whole load of behaviours they'll ask me to fix later down the line... and trust me, I've been doing this long enough to say confidently... it's much much harder to fix problems by the time you notice them!
It doesn't matter how many times you've been here before, how many books you've read, or how many TikTok tutorials you've followed, the puppy in front of you will, at some point, throw you a curve-ball and have you asking "why?"
It's also these mad, fluffy curve-balls that are why I love this job!
The first few weeks with a new puppy are some of the most important you'll ever have, it's when routines begin to form, relationships develop and your puppy starts learning about YOU!
Right now they're little fuzzy, squidgy sponges, soaking up everything around them in the alien world you've dropped them in.
So why do so many people spend thousands on a puppy (and subsequently Amazon!) and then just 'wing it'? It baffles me!
It's like turning 17, buying a Lamborghini and saying... "nah I don't need driving lessons, my parents had a car when I was a kid". Apart from it being illegal... IT'S INSANE!
