🐹🥬 Guinea Pig Menu: What’s YUM and What’s YIKES? 🥕🌿
Guinea pigs may be tiny, but they have BIG opinions about food! Here’s a quick guide to keeping your fluffy potato healthy and happy. 💛
🌟 MUST-HAVE FOOD: FRESH HAY 🌟
Timothy hay (or other grass hay) should be available ALL THE TIME — yes, 24/7! 🏡🌾
Why hay is so important:
• Keeps their teeth trimmed naturally 🦷
• Helps digestion stay healthy 💚
• Prevents dangerous tummy problems 🚑
• Gives them something fun to munch all day 😋
A guinea pig without hay is like a phone without a charger… eventually things stop working. 😂
✅ GOOD FOODS FOR GUINEA PIGS:
🥬 Romaine lettuce
🫑 Bell peppers (great source of Vitamin C!)
🥒 Cucumber
🥕 Carrots (small amounts)
🌿 Fresh herbs like parsley, mint and basil
🍓 Strawberries & blueberries as occasional treats
🌾 Unlimited fresh hay
🥣 Guinea pig pellets with added Vitamin C
🚫 FOODS WHICH ARE A DEFINITE NO-GO:
❌ Iceberg lettuce
❌ Potatoes
❌ Onions & garlic
❌ Chocolate
❌ Bread, crackers, or junk food
❌ Dairy products
❌ Avocado
❌ Anything sugary or salty
⚠️ Fun fact: Guinea pigs can’t make their own Vitamin C, so they NEED it from their diet every day!
