❗️ Anyone in a position of trust should not take a child or young person in their vehicle alone.

Make sure to check the appropriate supervision ratio of adults to young people. This will minimise any risks to children, reassure parents and carers, and provide some protection for those responsible in the event of concerns or incidents arising.

🌾It's Feed Fact Fortnight ( ), and we share today insights from Dr Simon Daniels from the royal The Royal Agricultural University .

Super-fibres – Alongside the importance of fibre overall in the diet, certain fibre are known as super-fibres. These fibre sources such as sugarbeet pulp and alfalfa for example have a water holding capacity. The water is taken up into the fibre, acting like a reservoir. As the fibre is degraded in the horses hindgut the water is released and available to the horse. Competition days can be long and horses may not drink as much when out competing as when at home, if the diet contains super fibres this will help with hydration status, although it is not a replacement for free access to water.

Expert tips for healthy breathing! Simple System Horse Feeds Director of Nutrition, Jane van Lennep, is sharing her valuable advice on respiratory health as part of Feed Fact Fortnight ( )

Horses spent the last 30 million years as grazers on the wide open, grassy plains. The air was fresh and clean, and for most of the time, their heads were down. Any dust, pollen or mucus drained easily from their lungs. The situation for many horses now is very different and respiratory issues are a major cause for concern. Consider that an exercised horse may be using 4 times its lung capacity as at rest, and its breathing rate could be tenfold. That’s 40 times as much air going in and out and 40 times as many particles being inhaled. After exercise it is a good idea to allow your horse to graze (i.e. head down) until breathing rate is normal, before returning to the stable. These few minutes could make a difference to your horse’s health and longevity. Feed as much as possible from below chest level and do all you can to reduce dust.

If you’d like to discuss your horse’s dietary needs, the Feed Line can be reached on 01728 604 008, or by email to [email protected]
A big thank you to Jane van Lennep and Simple System Horse Feeds for sharing this important respiratory health advice during !

Did you know that not all asthma inhalers are permitted in sport? 🤔

The anti-doping status of an inhaler depends on the type of medication that it contains and the dose that you've been prescribed. If you're using one and competing in equestrian sport, you should do the following...

1️⃣ Search for the status of your asthma medications using GlobalDRO 👉 www.globaldro.com

2️⃣ Check if you need to apply for a therapeutic use exemption (TUE) using the UK Anti-Doping TUE Wizard 👉 www.ukad.org.uk/tue-wizard

3️⃣ Apply for the TUE via the UKAD website 👉 www.ukad.org.uk

You can find more information about asthma inhalers and their anti-doping status via the new resources on the UKAD website 👉 www.ukad.org.uk/asthma-inhalers
