With temperatures forecast to reach close to 30°C over the coming week, I wanted to remind everyone of my Hot Weather Policy.
As a small, hands-on business, I take full responsibility for every dog in my care and will never take unnecessary risks with their well-being.
Kirsty’s K-nines – Hot Weather Policy
Walks:
🌡Your dog will not be walked if I believe the weather makes it unsafe. Your dogs’ safety comes first.
🕑Where possible, I’ll start walks earlier in the day to avoid the heat and accommodate as many dogs as I can. Availability is limited, and I may not be able to adjust every booking.
🌳Walks may be shortened or adapted to shaded routes or changed to pop-in visits/toilet breaks to keep dogs comfortable and safe.
🐶Priority will be given to vulnerable clients, followed by dogs who are home alone during the day. If you’re home or working from home, your walk may be rescheduled or cancelled.
🚫If a walk is cancelled due to weather conditions, you won’t be charged. Any prepaid sessions will be credited towards your next booking.
Daycare:
🚰Increased access to fresh water and cooling opportunities throughout the day
🆒️More indoor rest time with fans/cooling mats available
🐾Walks may be replaced with garden visits, enrichment sessions, or shorter toilet breaks if temperatures become unsafe
Please be aware that some dogs are more vulnerable to heat-related illness, including:
• Flat-faced breeds
• Elderly dogs
• Puppies
• Overweight dogs
• Dogs with thick or double coats
• Dogs with underlying health conditions
Owners can help by:
• Ensuring dogs have access to water before collection
• Avoiding heavy meals immediately before daycare/walks
• Informing me of any health concerns or recent illness
• Providing cooling coats or items if your dog benefits from them
