It Always Happens on a Sunday!

Picture the scene: It’s Sunday morning, you give your dogs a marrow bone each to settle with and have gone back to bed for a bit of a cheeky lie in and you are happily scrolling through your iPad.

Shortly afterwards, one of your dog's appears by the side of the bed, showing you his bone in that way that they do. You smile at him but then you notice that all may not be well...... You try to gently remove the bone from him but it won’t come out of his mouth - it’s firmly wedged on his lower jaw! What do you do?!

This is exactly what happened to poor Fletcher's owners recently. Fortunately, they contacted Castle Vets for an emergency appointment, where he was examined by Mark Tucker. The bone was firmly lodged, and it was decided that we needed to sedate Fletcher so that Mark could get a better look at exactly where the bone was located.

This confirmed that the marrow bone was well and truly lodged on Fletchers teeth and was not going to come off without assistance. A general anaesthetic was administered and, with Fletcher completely unaware of what was going on, Mark used his orthopaedic instruments to cut the bone in half on both sides to release it. Fletcher’s mouth was then re-examined to make sure the bone hadn’t caused any damage to his mouth or any teeth. Fortunately, everything looked fine, and we are pleased to say that Fletcher fully recovered from his anaesthetic and went home later that day.

Poor Fletcher and his owners were simply unlucky, and they threw the rest of the marrow bones out the same day. But what a wake-up call for a Sunday morning!!

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day🌈

Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day is observed on August 28th every year and is a day dedicated to honouring and remembering pets that have passed away.
