PLEASE PLEASE DONT WALK YOUR DOGS IN THIS HEAT☀️

As temperatures begin to rise over the next couple of days, it is important to remember that warm weather can pose a serious health risk to our pets.

Dogs are far more susceptible to overheating than humans, and heatstroke can develop rapidly, particularly during exercise or walks in warmer conditions. Even on days that may not feel excessively hot to us, pavement temperatures can become dangerously high for dogs.

For example, when the temperature reaches 25°C, pavement surfaces can exceed 50°C which is hot enough to cause painful burns to paw pads within seconds.

To help keep your dog safe during warmer weather, we recommend:

- Walking dogs early in the morning or later in the evening.
- Avoiding exercise during peak temperatures.
- Providing access to cold fresh water at all times.
- Choosing shaded or grassy routes where possible
- Never leaving dogs unattended in vehicles

Common signs of heatstroke include:
- Excessive panting
- Drooling
- Lethargy or weakness
- Vomiting or diarrhoea
- Collapse

Heatstroke is a life-threatening emergency and can kill. If you are concerned your pet may be overheating, please seek veterinary attention immediately.

Thank you for helping us keep pets safe and comfortable this summer.

Here we have this wonderful pair of pups demonstrating how to keep safe in the sunshine☀️
✅Keep dogs hydrated
✅Keep dogs in the shade as much as possible
✅Limit time in the sunshine, take shorter walks or skip walks and avoid peak heat when possible

As this was a midday check in, these guys were out in the middle of the heat today but we made sure to keep well shaded, well hydrated and only had a small sniff filled walk rather than a whole hours stroll, spending the rest of the hour chilling🥵❤️
