Did you realise all horses are at risk of flu, even if they don’t leave the yard as the virus can travel through the air up to 2km*. Plus competing and hacking horses could get infected and bring flu back to the yard. Vaccination is the most effective tool you have to help protect your horse. If your horse is unvaccinated, please contact the practice to book an appointment and we will provide one vaccine for free in the primary course**.

Happy bank holiday weekend! ☀️🐾
With the weather heating up this weekend, be sure to keep your animals nice and cool.

Here are our top tips for keeping pets safe in warm weather:

Dogs

• Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.
• Avoid hot pavements — if it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for paws.
• Always provide fresh, cool water and shaded areas.
• Never leave dogs in parked cars, even for a few minutes.
• Watch for signs of heatstroke: heavy panting, drooling, vomiting, lethargy, or collapse.

Cats

• Keep cats indoors during the hottest part of the day if possible.
• Ensure they have access to cool, shaded spots and plenty of water.

Livestock & horses

• Ensure constant access to clean drinking water.
• Provide shade in fields and avoid transporting animals during peak heat.
• Check animals regularly for signs of heat stress.

**Contact a vet immediately if you suspect heatstroke**

🎉May is veterinary nurse awareness month🎉

😍 Over the next few weeks we will be sharing with you the different aspects of veterinary nursing as well as advice on how to become a veterinary nurse.

🤩At Aeron we are ever so lucky to have a wonderful nursing team. Lizzie and Sian are qualified RVN’s and we have Annie and Marian who are Animal Care Assistants.

🩺To become a veterinary nurse takes dedication and passion and we are so lucky to have a team that has that at the forefront of their minds. It’s not all puppy cuddling and cleaning, the nursing team are integral in supporting the vets with patient care, scrubbing into surgery’s, running lab samples, anaesthesia, dressing changes, nurse clinics, blood sampling, taking x-rays and placing i/v and urinary catheters.

💞It’s a varied job and can be emotionally and physically exhausting. So a massive THANK YOU to our wonderful nursing team 😊 we think you are amazing 😇
