Sadie In The Saddle Freelance Instructor and Rider from Yorkshire documenting my journey of starting an equestrian career; coaching, riding and life on the yard.

As a freelance instructor and rider my aim is to assist riders and horse owners to improve their riding skills in dressage, show jumping and cross country. In addition I offer guidance with handling skills and strengthening the relationship between you and your horse. As a freelance rider my services include exercising your horse, schooling, hacking out and competing at dressage, show jumping, cross country and eventing. Holiday cover is also available.

With the ground being so hard recently, I haven't actually had an intentional canter on Honey yet (only little bursts when she's spooked at something 🙈)

But today was the day! And she felt awesome 🥹 I'm so pleased with how she's taken to ridden life - if you hadn't already noticed from my overzealous commentaries 😅

A pretty special evening at the yard 🌑✨

We had the best view of the eclipse from the yard last night, so a few of us ended up stopping what we were doing and watching it together.

There was a bit fitting going on at the time too, and Lisa is actually a former livery here, so it was lovely having her back, even if we did end up putting everything on pause for a few minutes to look through the glasses! 😂

A little Orla appreciation post because she deserves one 🥹💛

Honey is actually a really independent little horse. She's quite bold, likes to make her own decisions and generally has an "I'll do it myself" attitude (I wonder where she gets that from 👀)
But she does still have moments where she needs a bit of help.

She'll stop and have a look at something, sometimes she's not quite sure about going past something, and that's where Orla has been brilliant.

She's happy to stand and wait for Honey to have a look, or she'll quietly take the lead when Honey needs a bit of confidence to follow!

They've been out together a few times now and Orla just seems to know when to do what Honey needs 🥰

A very good nanny horse...although I'm fairly sure Honey wouldn't describe herself as needing a nanny 😂

Monday is polework day!

I've been trying to make Honey's polework a little more varied while still keeping it simple enough for her to understand.

She finds poles quite difficult, especially keeping a rhythm in the arena, so today was really about getting her to think about where her feet are, move her body in different directions and stay relaxed while doing it.

She definitely found some of it tricky, but she kept trying and I was really pleased with her 🥹

Honey's only been ridden 12 times, and today was our first proper hack out on our own.

Of course, the day we chose, there were piles of branches, tree surgeons working, and tractors spreading muck 😅

There were a few moments where she wasn't sure, but every time she stopped, I just gave her a moment to think and told her she was a good girl. And every time, she walked off confidently again!

I'm so proud of my girl 🥹

making sure I can be seen as well as catching these memories 🫶
