Shout out again to my scent scholars, who have done a couple of sessions with me over the past few weeks looking at the skill of cluttered areas and obstacles in areas that make the dog want to jump over, step around or duck down... We looked at asking the dogs to move and think about their body, but also switch their noses on and source hides in these spaces.

I loved it. Well done guys, you smashed it!!!

On Wednesday evening, I ran a Scent Scholars session (my advanced teams are called Scent Scholars!) and we looked at an exercise where the dogs "felt like the hide was inaccessible but actually it isn't".

Not sure of the fancy term for this set up....

But the reason I wanted to run this session is that, as our dogs progress through the levels of The National Nosework Association we ask them to work hides that are inaccessible - either by height or containment. For example the source of the hide may be placed in a closed drawer.

As we train and practice these hides, dog can occasionally learn that "this is good enough", they work the fringes of odour, then give an indication because it that moment it feels like it's going to be an inaccessible hide.

So we did some set ups when the dog comes into odour, then has to work to get to source instead of saying "that's it, it's inaccessible."

Dogs were amazing, thanks for being a fab group!

Such a lovely day today, after the focus trial I hosted a workshop for 4 scent work teams working on different skills - confidence building, reward mechanics, hard to source hides and more. The dogs were fantastic 😍 well done guys!

Congratulations to the Pre Entry Teams who came to Ludlow Training Company Ltd today for a lovely trial. We managed to dodge most of the rain! Whooopp!

I was feeling smug about being really prepared today, with printed running orders and I even packed my own lunch so I didn't have to survive on biscuits. Opened up my box with the badges and discovered I'd packed Enhanced Medals not Pre Entry ones 🫪🙄

My intermediate scentwork class are BACK being awesome!

They have been at beginners for 6 weeks, I send them home with home work and a few weeks later they are back for another 6 weeks! And the dogs are fantastic 😍

Today we looked at setting our dogs up, our handling at the start of the search and improving our indication via reward placement and reward system.

Can't wait to see you all next week!

Happy June! So much to look forward to this month!

🎊 Intermediate Scentwork starts this week!! Four teams coming to develop on their skills from beginners. I can't wait to see them again, hopefully they will be taking their Foundation ORTs for the National Nosework Association as part of the course!

❤️ Wednesday late night skills for my advanced scent work teams begins this week and continues on Wednesday evenings for the foreseeable.

🎆 Thursdays are a mix of evening and day time workshops for my advanced scent work teams. Were searching all sorts of venues from Ludlow racecourse to manor houses!

🎈 I've got several NNA Trials on the books, Pre Entry, Enhanced and an Excellence focus! Some of these have spaces so take a look!!!

💚 Later on in June, I'm starting a "back to basics" course where some of my advanced teams are strengthening their foundation skills in a bootcamp style course. This will run again later in summer, it was mega popular!

🔥 I'm also running an online webinar, via Zoom, looking at how to design and implement a successful training plan. This is for my scent scholars crew but happy to have anyone else on board who would like to join.

🐕 My weekend advanced scent teams are off to work on inaccessible hides, awkward spaces and more on Saturday!

👯 I'll be back at Dog Confidence for two workshops on Heelwork To Music. I cannot wait! I love this venue and this group!

💃🏼 Brand new, I'm running a workshop at Puppy Plus for new people looking at Heelwork To Music. I think there may be a spot left this weekend so come along if you want to know more!

And I think that's it... But I've probably missed something! I don't always get photos but loads going on with the most fabulous dogs and people! Bring it on!!!
