For our Sunday story this week, we have two little dogs who love having the biggest adventures at Run Free! Meet Bonnie, an 11-year-old Lhasa Apso who still thinks she’s a pup, and Daisy, a bold little 1-year-old Maltese who’s convinced she’s a much bigger dog!

Nicole told us: “The Run Free fields give us the freedom – and the kids love to enjoy it too.”

Bonnie and Daisy absolutely thrive when they’ve got space to run, sniff and play without the worry of wandering off. It’s not just great for the dogs, it’s a place the whole family can enjoy together.

Thanks for sharing your story, Nicole and family! If you’d like to share your Run Free story with us, please get in touch. We offer a free slot at Run Free for any stories we use!

Struggling with recall? You’re not alone.

The truth is that recall gets harder when your dog only hears “come” right before the lead goes on or the fun ends. But it doesn’t have to be a battle, especially when you’re in a secure space like Run Free.

Here’s how to turn recall into your dog’s favourite game:

• Use the whole field
Let your dog get some distance so they can really enjoy the run back. Shout “come” with excitement and reward them like they’ve just won gold.

• Bring amazing treats
Cheese. Chicken. That stinky sausage they go mad for. Make returning to you the best part of their day.

• Add toys into the mix
Some dogs love food. Others love fetch. Call them, then throw the ball or toy as their reward.

• Celebrate like crazy
Praise, play, pats and cuddles. Your energy matters. Be the most exciting thing in the field.

• Practise when you don’t need to
If recall only means “we’re going home now,” your dog will catch on. Call them during play, reward, then send them back off again. It keeps things positive.

At Run Free, your dog can enjoy real off-lead time while you practise recall in a safe, stress-free space. It’s the perfect mix of freedom and focus.

Book a Run Free field and try it for yourself.

It’s our favourite time again, our Saturday story where we hear from some of our fantastic customers! This is 5-year-old Brodi, a Cavachon loving life at our Activity Field in Run Free Kirkliston.

Lauren says: “We love using Run Free Dog Fields because it gives us a safe, secure environment to work on our training. We attend training several times a week and your fields are a safe place to put it all into practice. It’s also a safe space for Brodi to just have lots of fun, running around, sniffing and using the equipment. It’s a space where we feel safe.”

Whether it’s serious training or just having a great time, Brodi makes the most of every visit, and we love seeing that happy face! Thanks for sharing your story with us.

Why dogs need off-lead freedom (and you do too!)

Letting your dog off the lead in a secure space isn’t just fun, it’s vital for their wellbeing. Here’s why unstructured, off-lead time is one of the best things you can give your dog - and yourself!

✅ Natural behaviour
Dogs can sniff, explore and move at their own pace. No route, no rules. Just being a dog.

✅ Physical health
Sprinting, chasing, playing with friends. It's the kind of full-body movement they simply can’t get on a lead.

✅ Mental stimulation
Every scent trail is a puzzle. Making choices and following instincts is a workout for their brain.

✅ Confidence boost
Safe freedom helps build independence, encourages calm, and improves recall.

✅ Your peace of mind
No need to scan for distractions. Just breathe, walk, relax, and enjoy time together.

Our secure fields are designed so you can both let go safely!

Book now and give your dog the freedom they crave. You might find you need it too.

Wondering how to take your dog out safely during our Scottish heatwave? We’ve got a few tips to help you choose wisely and keep your dog safe in the sun at Run Free.

• Book sensible times
Most Run Free fields have availability early morning and late evening. These are perfect for avoiding the hottest part of the day.

• Pick a shady field
Dechmont Field (Run Free Broxburn) is our woodland field, with trees and long grass that offer plenty of shade and cool spots. Other shady options include Newton Field (Run Free South Queensferry) and Kilmacolm Field (Run Free Port Glasgow). All our fields also have a wooden shelter for extra shade.

• Bring extra water
We provide water cans at the Run Free fields without running water and top them up regularly, but it is always safer to bring extra. Please use the provided water for drinking only so it lasts as long as possible.

• Cool down with a dog shower
Some of our fields have dog showers for a refreshing hose down. We’ll pop a list of these fields in the comments.

• Chill out in the long grass
Several Run Free fields have areas of long, uncut grass. These are perfect for dogs to enjoy lying down, rolling around and keeping cool.

• Take it easy
Encourage sniffing and exploring rather than lots of high energy play when it’s hot.

At Run Free, it's easy to stay safe and have fun. Let’s make the most of this rare Scottish sunshine!

This week our Saturday story is about Bella, a gorgeous girl who usually stays on-lead due to being reactive to other dogs. But that doesn’t stop her from living her best life at Run Free!

Alicia says “Bella is quite reactive to other dogs, so she’s always on the lead when we’re out walking. I’m so grateful for Run Free fields. They give my girl the freedom and exercise she deserves! We go so often she starts her classic Staffy screams as soon as she knows we’re near!”

Bella’s top picks?
– Dechmont field, Run Free Broxburn for zipping through the trees
– Longridge field, Run Free Whitburn for epic ball-chasing sessions

Here she is loving life surrounded by buttercups, the absolute picture of a happy, free pup! Thank you for sharing your story! Reactive dogs deserve adventures too, and we’re really happy to be part of Bella’s!

A quick but important reminder for all Run Free visitors!

Please remember to lock the gate after your session ends.
It might feel like a small thing, but it makes a big difference.

Here’s why:

• It stops people who haven’t paid from sneaking in.
Sadly, not everyone plays fair. Unauthorised users are far more likely to damage equipment, ignore the rules, and leave behind mess, which affects everyone.

• It drives up costs for us, and eventually for you.
When someone uses a field without booking, it’s not just cheeky, it’s theft. Our real customers pay to keep the fields safe, clean and well maintained. It’s not fair that others take advantage.

• You pay for your dog’s freedom and no one should get that for free.

We’ve made a quick video showing how to lock the gate correctly. It only takes a few seconds to watch, and it really helps keep Run Free running smoothly for everyone.

Thanks for helping to keep our Run Free fields a fun and safe place for your dogs!

This week’s Sunday story is about beautiful Amaya. Chelsea says: “This is my 2-year-old baby girl Amaya – she’s a Cane Corso with big dumbo ears and very selective hearing! Her recall is rubbish, so being able to let her off-lead safely is amazing. She loves running wild and getting the zoomies at the Run Free fields!”

Amaya’s favourites?

Philipstoun, Run Free Winchburgh, where she chills out watching the sheep and lambs.

Dechmont, Run Free Broxburn, perfect for sprinting through the woods at full speed!

Thank you for sharing, Amaya, and for reminding us why secure, off-lead space matters so much for dogs who need to run free.

It’s time for our Saturday story, so meet Lambo – a bouncy, brilliant English Bull Terrier who’s been chasing applause since her very first visit to Run Free! Her name sums her up! She looks like a lamb and is as fast as a Lamborghini!

Mikaela says: “We got Lambo last March and started using Run Free Fields to teach her recall, but she loved the place that much we go every Sunday still! She’s a bit of a goofball but really keen to learn and loves nothing more than a big round of applause for being clever!”

She’s in her element at Run Free, with the new play equipment at Faifley field giving her plenty to keep her busy! At just 18 months old, Lambo is still learning – and our secure fields are the perfect place for energetic, headstrong breeds like the English Bull Terrier. Known for their charm, intelligence, and independent streak, they thrive in enclosed environments where they can explore safely and focus without distractions.

Whether it's recall training, a solo adventure, or just having fun at full speed, Run Free gives dogs like Lambo the space and confidence to shine.

If you’d like your dog to be the star of our weekend story, please message or email us!
