Yesterday we received something pretty special. Aethalochroa kaltenbachi nymphs. They're a first for us and also everybody else within the hobby in the UK.

Today we fly home from a wonderful 11 nights in Sal, Cape Verde. We did manage to find some wildlife whilst on the walks we did but disappointed we didnt get to see any praying mantis and not even any signs of them until yesterday, our last day, when we visited the botanical gardens and found the special trees that we must have found 30+ ooths on. They seemed to prefer this one particular type of tree. Yesterday also saw us doing a charity dog walk with a local rescue centre. OSPA Cabo Verde Cats and Dogs do a wonderful job and it was an absolute pleasure to be a part of it. I would urge anyone thinking of visiting to do so and help them out with donations. I didnt get to take many pics or videos as my hands was full with Cassie and Penny who are both absolute nutters and didn't tire out at all.

Things have been quiet since the last post mainly because for the last 5 days we have been on holiday meaning the run up to it we have been sorting everything out to simplify feeding and maintenance for the step daughter whilst we are away.
Anyhow today is my birthday and we have done a day tour of the island. What a great day its been but the highlight has to be going out into the sea and being with young Lemon sharks in their natural environment ( even if one or two did try, and very nearly, eat my phone as I was recording them haha). Videos arent the greatest as I couldn't see a thing due to the sun beaming down.

Yesterday I found that we had another Metallyticus splendidus mature over night. Managed to grab some quick shots of this absolutely stunning species.

The next generation of Fulciniola snelleni aka Moss Mantis are starting to reach adulthood now so gave them an upgrade the other day. Nice large enclosure for all 18 of them kept communally in there. Shall be fun testing to find ooths in the coming weeks but its all part of the job.

This adult female Rhombodera sp Guangxi is stunning. Hopefully we will have some more nymphs of this species available in the near future as we have 4 females waiting for their one night stand.
As you can see in the last pic, the male is being rather cautious and keeping his eyes on her from a distance but we will need all the luck possible as we only have the one male.

Another thing we want to change this year is to try and post more. We do sometimes go a while without posting any updates.
So last night I took the camera down the garden to the bughouse and took some pics of the recently matured Metallyticus splendidus aka Metallic bark mantis. It's a stunner for sure. I'll let the pics do the talking.

I'll start with belated Happy New Year to all. May 2026 be a great year for you all.
For us it is the start of a few changes and upgrades. Firstly being a new website (one that is uk based not Australian so the current site has been taken down whilst this is being sorted).

A little update on current projects.
The Metallyticus are turning adult, we got our first adult yesterday morning.
We now have a pair of Sinomantis at adult with more to go so fingers crossed for another generation of the amazing Glass mantis soon hopefully.
We have 2 adult female Stenophylla lobivertex aka Dragon mantis which we are hopeful for the 2 males to reach adult soon and secure another gen of them also. The females have just had an upgrade to their homes which is added to this post.
Lots of other mantis reaching adult, enough to keep me busy for a few weeks pairing them, that's for certain.
The dart frogs have been busy the last few months and now have 10 froglets ready to go and another 10 tadpoles growing by the day.
Isopods are all doing well with some species ready to go to new homes. We now have 24 species of isopods with the majority having babies in with them.

Had bit of a baby boom in the Ardentiella pastel tub. Caught this female after just dropping the babies. Looks a really nice size clutch to add to the other load of babies that are growing nicely. Will hopefully be able to offer some of these soon.
