Daisy came for a good de-moult groom. She has the silkiest coat; I felt bad making it look all patchy 🫣

Bella was back this week to finish of her de-moult. I saw her last week but it became clear she would need an extra session.
It may not look like a dramatic change but trust me - SOOOOOOO much floof came off!
Bella was a very good girl 🐰🐰

Bella’s half groom 😵‍💫 It was supposed to be a full groom but her moult was extensive and will need another session.

Sometimes grooms don’t go as planned! Bella is a regular at TRR so I was confident I could get what needed to be done in the hour slot. Little did I know Bella had decided to protest these ridiculous heat waves and shed her entire coat all at once 😬🫣
So I only scratched the surface in this groom and will need another hour to remove the rest of her moult ready for Autumn.
Why not extend the groom you might ask? Well, rabbits rarely tolerate more than 1-1.5 hours per session before they get agitated or too hot. And they’ll let you know when they’re done because they absolutely will not sit still all of a sudden 😌
She was a very good bun, of course 🥹🐰

It’s incredible how fast double-mane Lionhead’s hair grows!
This is Wolfie after her hair cut three months ago, and then yesterday 😲

These sorts of breeds cannot maintain their own coat and it will become matted without proper care. That can include combing, shaving, trimming, air blowing, hand teasing (not the kind of horrific plucking you see on rabbit fur farms) etc.

Animals suffer because we breed them to exhibit traits that would not occur through natural selection. These traits are detrimental to their health and they need proper maintenance from us, their caregivers. As a former zoologist I have a deep understanding of natural selection and it pains me to see fancy breeds of species - purely bred for our aesthetic pleasure and profit.

Having said that, Wolfie’s human cares deeply for her welfare and understands her needs. The more we educate people on how to properly care for these creatures we’ve created, the better.

Disclaimer: not all double-mane lionheads need full trims like this, or trims as regularly. They can be maintained through other methods like those mentioned above. But the moment you notice matting, or hair getting into their eyes, or poops strung together with hair - that’s your sign to chop the coat!

Wolfie came for her full groom today and my, had she floofed up in the three months since I last saw her! She’s a double mane Lionhead and absolutely needs a trim due to the heat waves we’ve been having in the UK.

Today we had Toffee and Twix in for their first nail trims. These two babies were absolutely adorable 🐹🐹

Sniff Snoff enjoying her head rubbies.

Sniff Snoff is a rescue. She is deaf and partially sighted. I didn’t start putting my hands beneath her chin when I adopted her as she was scared and flighty. It’s something that’s developed over years and takes a lot of trust between bunny and human. I do not recommend doing this (putting hands under rabbits chins) unless you have a strong established bond and understand rabbit behaviour and anatomy. It can end in a nasty bite especially if the bunny doesn’t know you.
