I get asked what I do for a job and when I respond with “oh I’m a dog walker” the response is “I would love to walk dogs all day, you have the best job” well yes its great I do get to spend time with dogs but they don’t see what behind the scenes is!
It’s not as simple as just grabbing a lead and walking the dog, take this week for example with the heat wave!
Us dog walkers have to adjust our normal day to even earlier than usual to ensure the dogs in our care is walked at a sensible time before the peak of the heat! We deal with cancelled walks which results in income loss! We deal with extreme heat and ensure our vans have the efficient products in place to keep them cool ie fans and cool mats! Whilst hydrating ourselves (if we get the chance)
Starting work at 7/7.30am to beat the mid-day heat. Also changing walks to garden visits if a group walk can’t go ahead! Because of the weather!
On constant watch to make sure the dogs stay cool and find walking areas that are shaded!
So yes whilst it’s nice to walk dogs it can also be stressful.
(Here is my gang today enjoying the morning sun in between 7.30am-11am)
💚 A big thank you too all clients who are at home who chose to walk their dogs earlier this week which is giving me chance to get around the dogs who are at home alone and need walks even if it’s early 💚
I appreciate it ❤️
