On the outskirts of Churchstow village in South Devon lies a wooded and peaceful copse, where all kinds of family pets who have given a lifetime of loyalty and friendship are remembered with a lasting and loving memorial. Meadow Wood is a privately owned family firm established over 30 years ago by Tessa and Eric Drake to provide a sympathetic and caring service to Veterinary practices and pet own

ers. We provide cremations and burials and we collect pets from your home or Veterinary Practice returning their ashes within a few days in an urn or casket of your choice. We are a dedicated team who all have our own pets and appreciate this is a difficult time for you. Please be assured at Meadow Wood every pet is handled, at all times, with the greatest of respect and dignity. We are here to answer all your questions and concerns.

At Meadow Wood we have been made aware of a very disturbing and upsetting social media post regarding a pet crematorium in Hereford that isn’t a member of the APPCC.
We won’t link to post here as some of the images are extremely distressing.

At Meadow Wood we understand that pet owners have placed their trust in us to take their pet on its final journey with dignity and care. We take our responsibilities extremely seriously and ensure that each step of this journey is handled in a sensitive and respectful way.

We are founder members of the APPCC (Association of Private Pet Cemeteries and Crematoria). We follow their code of practise: APPCC Consumer Code of Conduct – APPCC. Our premises and working practises are independently inspected and approved.

The vets we work with are also invited to inspect our premises regularly.
Pets entrusted to us are transported in specifically designed vehicles with segregation. In addition, in the short period prior to cremation, pets are kept in a dignified manner.

It’s a distressing day when news like this brings the sector into disrepute and puts doubt in the minds of grieving pet owners.

A dignified cremation is a final act of love and respect that pet owners have been entrusting us, at Meadow Wood for over 35 years. We recommend that you ask your vet if their partner crematorium is APPCC approved. Owners are not required to use the service provided by their vet and can use an independent pet crematorium if they choose.

Please share this with fellow pet owners to reassure and inform them that the APPCC exists to protect their right to dignity for their pet, right to the end.

The main road in Churchstow to Meadow Wood is closed due to road works. You can still access the lane down to the gardens from the kingsbridge direction. And there is a diversion in place from the Plymouth direction. Sorry for the inconvenience
