Any changes in eating habits is a red flag 🚩
We need to be vigilant and watch our guinea pigs eat- watch out for wet around the mouth, teeth grinding (sign of pain), reluctance to eat and weight loss 🐹

Bynx Update 🩶🐇

Bynx had a vet visit today. After a full health check, the vet believes his leg was once broken at the knee joint. It then healed incorrectly as he was never seen when it happened & in a position which is causing him ongoing pain and discomfort.

He currently weighs 1.35 kg and will return to the vet this Friday for X-rays to confirm the damage and plan the next steps. We may also take the opportunity to have him neutered if it’s safe to do so. Friday’s care—X-rays, pain relief, and possible neutering—is estimated at around £400, not including any treatment for his leg after we see the results.

Caring for rabbits like Bynx is a big task, and we truly couldn’t do it without your kindness. Every bit of support—donating, sharing his story, or simply sending encouraging words—helps give him a chance at a pain-free life. 🤍

I’ve had a fabulous few days away in the lovely city of York! Thanks to Sam Little Pet Inn for looking after 5 of my little piggies whilst I was away!
I’m back returning to any messages, we have our monthly nail trimming clinics but we will try and accommodate other times if we can 🐹🐰

A new charity dedicated to guinea pig health and welfare was launched at the Guinea Pig Welfare Forum.

Guinea Pig Welfare UK brings together veterinary insight, husbandry experience and nutritional expertise to tackle widespread welfare issues affecting the UK’s pet guinea pig population.

With a stated mission to ‘advance the health and welfare of all guinea pigs in Great Britain and Northern Ireland through education and ethical research,’ the charity aims to become the recognised UK experts in guinea pig welfare.

🐇 Provide extra bedding (hay is perfect – it keeps them cosy and doubles as food!).
🏠 Check accommodation for drafts or damp – add insulation or covers if needed.
🥦 Keep them active with tunnels, toys, and foraging to prevent boredom when outdoor time is limited.
💧 Ensure water bottles don’t freeze – insulated covers can help.
👩‍⚕️ Regular grooming and nail checks are still essential, even in the colder months!
