*PUPPY NEEDING AN ACTIVE HOME*
This is Belle. She’s a 7 month old lab x springer who is in need of a home where she can channel her masses amount of energy into something positive as at the moment she is sadly struggling with reactivity to everything. I’ve had 4 1-2-1 sessions with her and she will walk with and go nose to nose with a calm, confident dog (my Archer) but reacts to other dogs with barking and lunging. She is the same with new people but once she knows you (and you have nice treats!) she will come to you. (See video of her in the comments where she is interacting with me) I think she’ll excel at scent work and is already scatter fed at home. Maybe flyball as she’ll bring a ball back but agility would involve a lot of confidence building first. Please pm me or comment if you need more information or to meet her. 🐾

Let’s talk about reward based training. There’s more to it than treats, treats, treats....and toys of course! I often get asked “what if my dog is not treat/toy oriented?” Or “my dog is so reactive he won’t take treats?” Now it’s rare that I come across a dog that will not react for either but I’ve just finished my 3rd session with a reactive schnauzer who fell into this category. So in this instance we use body language and of course verbal and physical praise. Using this technique we have taken him on a journey from reacting to a dog standing across a field from him to being able to walk alongside a large dog, relaxed and confident that his owner is in control rather than him feeling the need to bark and lunge. All without the need for punishment. Interestingly as he relaxed at the end of our final session he began taking treats as well!

This morning I worked with the beautiful Mabel who is a 7 month old Boxer with a lovely attitude. In this exercise we were working on ‘Impulse Control’ using a clam toy with food inside. Notice Mabel being released with a ‘yes’ cue when she maintained a few seconds of eye contact. Good girl Mabel 👏 🐶 🌟

Looking for a bomb proof Labrador sized (or bigger) dog, local to Hunstanton, to help me with a nervous/reactive schnauzer that I’ve been working with. We’ve done 2 sessions with Archer who he is now fine with but he’s still reacting to larger dogs. All the dog & owner are required to do is to stand whilst we walk the schnauzer past and do some walkbys to hopefully progress to walking side by side. The dog must be confident around other dogs and most importantly not react to the schnauzer. At no time will the dog be put in a dangerous situation. If you think you may be able to help please pm me. Many thanks, Ruth.
