Finding ways to train in everyday life 🐾
Lucy still struggles with guests coming into the house. She’s nowhere near as bad as she used to be, but it’s still something we work on.
So, rather than waiting for visitors to come along, we created our own training opportunity.
We started booking our Tesco delivery for a time when Ross is home, so he can deal with the delivery while I use it as a little training session with Lucy 😂
We do this every week, and it has helped her massively.
Men are particularly triggering for Lucy, so last night she was watching a male delivery driver standing at our doorway, from her bed, at a distance where she feels comfortable.
And importantly, she’s free to move further away if she wants to. No forcing her to interact, no dragging her towards him, no expectation that she has to say hello.
Just safe exposure, choice and rewards❤️
While we’re working with Lucy, Mango's learning to stay calm and settled when guests arrive, just as a byproduct of the whole process🐾
Sometimes the best training opportunities are hiding in the most ordinary parts of our day!
