This is what the Growing Together group did this week
Myself, Ceri, and Aaron did some cooking in the Cooking Together kitchen with Kate. This time we cooked homemade chicken and leek pie, homemade chicken and veg pie with potatoes, peas and broad bean and cabbage all from the garden.
Myself and Ceri helped to create the filling to go in the pies, the broadbean salad and the chopping of the potatoes, whilst Aaron made from scratch the pastry cases for the filling to go in.
As well as cooking, I helped to prepare the food trolley and take it downstairs to the workshop to serve up from.
Whilst we were busy cooking this weeks lunch, Wayne, Brendan,, Christian, Brandon, Dai, Simon H, Simon D, Shaun went outside with Bridget and Chris to do lots of preparation work for the Garden Open Day next Friday.
Some of the preparation work that they did were putting lots of woodchip down on the paths leading up to the polytunnel, tidying up and weeding.
Once everyone outside completed their work for the morning, they all went back to the workshop to have lunch.
Everyone really enjoyed their lunch very much.
After lunch, everyone in the group went outside with Chris and Bridget to do lots more jobs.
Some of the jobs that were done in the afternoon were removing the daffodils from the flowerbed. tidying up and watering the potted plants. Before going home we all helped to put the tools away in the shed ready for another day.
To close this week's blog, for Mental Health Awareness Month I would like to share that being a volunteer at the John Burns Foundation has really made a massive difference to my life as my social skills with people has come on leaps and bounds, met new people and tried things that I don't normally do.
