☀️ HOT WEATHER DOG WALKING UPDATE ☀️

With temperatures to hit around early 30s today, keeping dogs safe always comes first 🐾

On days like this, normal walks simply aren’t worth the risk. Dogs can overheat far quicker than people realise.

I’ve written a quick blog with some simple ideas to help keep your dog cool and comfortable during the heatwave:

💧 Frozen treats
🧊 Indoor enrichment ideas
🌳 Safer walking times
🐾 Pavement checks
🚗 Heat safety reminders

Stay cool everyone — lots of shade, water and air con cuddles today ❤️

☀️ Hot Weather Update ☀️

With temperatures forecast to reach around 27–30°C next week, Walkies With Kris will be switching to hot weather routines to keep the dogs safe and comfortable 🐾

During extreme temperatures, it’s not safe for dogs to continue their normal walks. Dogs can overheat very quickly and hot pavements can become dangerous — especially for dogs with thicker coats, shorter noses or those who simply love to go full speed no matter the weather 😅

Instead of full walks, I’ll be offering company visits. These include a short toilet stroll where appropriate, followed by enrichment, play, fuss and company in the home and/or garden.

For my long-term clients, you’ll remember this from last summer. For newer clients, this has always been my approach during heatwaves because your dog’s wellbeing and safety will always come first ❤️

Hope everyone has a lovely Bank Holiday weekend! ☀️✨🐾

🐾 National Rescue Dog Day 🐾

Rescue dogs have always held a special place in my heart.

Growing up, I had two rescue dogs of my own — Rosie, who came into my life when I was 8, and Bella, a rescue Dalmatian who joined our family when I was 12. And now I’m lucky enough to have a rescue dog as part of the Walkies With Kris pack too, the lovely Domino ✨

They all came with different stories and backgrounds, and not every story starts easily.

But one thing I’ve always found incredible is how forgiving and loving dogs are.

Sometimes rescue dogs need a little more patience, understanding or confidence building — but when they realise they’re safe, loved and home, there’s something really special about seeing their personalities shine through.

Today felt like a lovely excuse to celebrate them and appreciate the joy they bring to our lives 💛

Here’s to the rescue dogs — and the second chances that end up changing our lives too 🐾

If you’ve got a rescue dog, I’d love to see them below 👇🏼🐾

It’s your Friday weekly round-up at Walkies With Kris! 🐾

I’ve been a little quieter than usual on here because there’s been lots going on behind the scenes, some of which I will share with you very soon and some of which will be revealed all in good time 👀

We’ve had a big reshuffle in walking schedule as I am almost at maximum capacity with my pack! We’ll be saying goodbye to two of my favourites next week as they are moving out of area ✨ I shall miss them terribly! 😭 but we have also said hello to two new members (welcome posts pending!)

As always, thanks so much for all the love and support, and I can’t believe how much my little business has grown in the last year — Walkies With Kris is officially 1 year old! 🥳🥳🥳

Happy Friday! 🐾🐶🐕🦴🦮🐕‍🦺🐩

🐾 It’s National Pet ID Week! 🐾

A quick reminder for all dog owners — in the UK it’s actually a legal requirement for dogs to wear a collar with an ID tag when they’re out in public.

Under the Control of Dogs Order 1992, your dog must wear a collar with the owner’s name and address on it whenever they’re in a public place — even if they’re microchipped.

If a dog is found without proper identification, the owner can be fined up to £5,000.

More importantly though, a simple ID tag can make all the difference if a dog ever gets lost. It allows someone to contact you immediately and get them home safely.

This is why one of the conditions for dogs joining Walkies With Kris is that they wear a collar with a visible ID tag whenever we’re out on walks.

A good tag should include:
✨ Owner’s name
✨ Address (a postcode is fine)
✨ A contact phone number (not legally required, but strongly recommended)

It’s a small thing that makes a huge difference for your dog’s safety 🐶

🐾 National Dog Bite Prevention Week 🐾

This week is all about raising awareness of how dog bites can be prevented — and one of the biggest ways we can do that is by learning to read dog body language.

Dogs rarely bite “out of nowhere.” Most dogs give several warning signals first, but people often miss or misunderstand them.

Some common signs a dog may be feeling uncomfortable include:

• Turning their head away
• Lip licking or yawning
• Showing the whites of their eyes (“whale eye”)
• Stiff body posture
• Ears pinned back
• Tail tucked or very still
• Freezing in place

These behaviours are a dog’s way of saying:
👉 “I’m not comfortable with this situation.”

If those signals are ignored, the dog may escalate to growling, snapping, or biting as a last resort.

Understanding these signals helps us step in early and prevent situations from escalating, keeping both dogs and people safe.

Remember — even the most friendly, well-trained dog can bite if they feel scared, threatened, or overwhelmed.

🐾 Dog training isn’t just about teaching dogs.
It’s about helping people understand them too 🫶🏼

🚑 National Pet First Aid Awareness Month 🚑

This month is all about raising awareness of the importance of pet first aid knowledge for dog owners and professionals working with animals.

When I’m out walking dogs, their safety and wellbeing is always my number one priority. That’s why I always carry a pet first aid kit on every walk and make sure I’m prepared for unexpected situations.

Pet first aid can help in situations such as:

✨ Minor cuts or injuries
✨ Heatstroke
✨ Choking
✨ Bee stings
✨ Ticks or grass seeds

Hopefully it’s something we never need to use, but knowing what to do in an emergency can make all the difference.

If you’re a dog owner, it’s a great idea to learn some basic pet first aid skills — it could one day save your dog’s life.

If people would find it helpful, I’m happy to share some simple pet first aid tips for dog owners throughout the month 🐾
