🦷 Dental disease and acupuncture might not be obviously linked
➡️ BUT Polly’s story shows why it’s vital to consider the whole horse alongside treatment for a specific problem
💪 A deformed, rotten tooth had been affecting the way Polly held her body, causing widespread tension and discomfort
💚 It was a privilege to treat her with acupuncture and to see her respond so beautifully!
Read Polly’s full story here, as told by her owner Ana ⬇️
“Polly had a dysplastic tooth - which means it was growing in the wrong direction.
It had been in her mouth at a wonky angle for her whole life so she had been suffering from permanent low grade pain. She adjusted how she behaved and understood what would hurt so avoided it.
When we got Polly we were told at her first routine rasping that this tooth looked abnormal but we could have no idea just how abnormal. An xray gave a snapshot, then a CT scan gave a clearer picture.
Her surgery was life changing- the team at Oakham gently and slowly manipulated the tooth and as it came out it showed its true horror! It was HUGE. Absolutely instantly Polly felt relief - her whole face changed.
I’ve never seen such change in a horse. Her head lowered, her eyes relaxed and her whole body exhaled. What we now have is the real Polly. Pain free, learning to be a horse again and without a headache”
