Two of Kidderminster’s most established theatre groups Kidderminster Operatic & Dramatic Society and Carpet Trades Musical Theatre Company are proud to announce that they will be joining forces to create one united society.
In recent years, the idea of strengthening the future of amateur theatre in our town has been widely discussed. It was suggested that a joint focus group be formed to explore how best to secure the longevity of both societies and to ensure that local audiences could continue to enjoy the highest standards of musical and dramatic productions.
Both committees met on two occasions to examine the possibilities in detail. The conclusion was unanimous: the best way forward was to bring the two groups together. This proposal was then presented to all members of both societies, who discussed the plans and, in true democratic fashion, voted to move ahead with a full merger.
This exciting development will be handled with care and respect, honouring the long and proud histories of both companies while embracing the opportunities that come with combining talent, resources, and creativity. Over the coming months, discussions will continue around the adoption of a permanent new name for the society and the planning of the first public performance under this new banner.
