⚠️ Extreme heat warning for tomorrow ⚠️

Temperatures are forecast to reach 25°C by 9am, rising to around 35–37°C and remaining above 25°C until after 9pm.

Please don’t walk your dog in this heat. Missing a walk won’t harm them, but heatstroke can be fatal. Keep all pets somewhere cool, with constant access to fresh water.

Our practice is fully air-conditioned, but please consider how your pet will cope during the journeys to and from us. Never leave them in a parked car, even briefly. If you feel travelling would put your pet at risk, please call us to rearrange your appointment.

Heavy panting, breathing difficulty, weakness, confusion, vomiting or collapse can be signs of heatstroke. This is an emergency—cool your pet and contact a vet immediately.

We are going to be asking for payment of services that we off on the day we do the service like pet sitting, daily drop ins or overnight stays as recently we have been having to chase payments up for a few jobs we have done with promises of payment but not all the time.
We do apologise to our current clients he this will affect .

We agree with this statement that Staffordshire police have provided as we have seen countless amounts of dogs being walked in the heat with two owners yesterday not caring and continuing to hurt their dogs paws with the heat

⚠️ Police have been forced to issue an urgent warning to dog owners amid soaring temperatures. Staffordshire Police are urging people to NOT walk their dogs during the hottest times of the day. Their plea comes after they were still seeing people out walking their dogs in the peak heat.

The force said: "Our police dogs are being kept cool inside and are not working unless absolutely necessary. Please keep your dogs safe too. Walk your dogs during the cooler times of the day, in the early morning and late evening. and make sure they have access to water. If in doubt, don't go out."

Some tips on keeping your dog cool
🧊 Keep them hydrated
⁃ place multiple bowls of fresh cold water out
🧊Walk them at cooler times of day
⁃ first thing in the morning and last thing at night
🧊Use a paddling pool
🧊Make some ice treat
⁃ frozen kongs, fruit and veg and Lickimats
🧊Never leave your dog in a hot car

Watch out for heatstroke
🔥Fast, heavy breathing or panting
🔥A bright red tongue
🔥Sticky gums
🔥Excessive drooling
🔥Vomiting
🔥Confusion
🔥Circling
🔥General restlessness
🔥Dizziness (your dog may appear lethargic, drowsy, or slow)

If your dog is presenting any of these symptoms call your vet.

Being a dog walker is…

…having a full day of cancellations during a heatwave, but still travelling out to visit the one dog who’s home alone all day because they still need you.

…getting genuinely heartbroken when a client tells you they’re moving away. Even more so when you don’t get to say goodbye.

…keeping a dog on your books that’s miles out of your way because you’ve built a relationship with them and their family, and some things matter more than profit.

…knowing every dog’s favourite route, favourite toy and favourite treats.

…taking hundreds of photos of the dogs that no one asked for because you’re obsessed.

…refusing not to show up for dogs during your own difficult times, or.. as per my current circumstances, moving house (shattered 😆)

Being trusted to care for someone’s dog is an honour.. but being trusted by that dog means everything. 💗

✅ Ensure pets have access to shaded, well-ventilated areas.
✅ Walk dogs during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening.
✅ Avoid hot pavements and artificial grass, which can burn paws.
✅ Never leave pets in parked cars, even for a few minutes.
✅ Watch for signs of heatstroke, including excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or collapse.
✅ Use cooling mats, damp towels, or pet-safe paddling pools to help keep pets comfortable.

Remember, some pets are at higher risk in hot weather, including flat-faced breeds, elderly pets, overweight animals, and those with underlying health conditions.
