We're delighted to announce that the bill to increase maximum sentences for animal cruelty from six months to five years has finally passed through parliament! 🎉 Blue Cross has campaigned for this law, with other animal welfare charities, for many years and we are delighted that progress has happened. This law will now send a message that animal cruelty will not be tolerated.

We have shared this on the Northlands page but probably worth a share here too. He is still on foster with our nurse, and should no owner come forward, he will stay with her. It has now been 11 days since he was handed in. If anyone has any information, please call Northlands.

Look at this absolute beauty 🥰

She was in with us today for a ‘tibial tuberosity advancement’ surgery with our orthopaedic vet, Adrian.

This surgery is used to treat the rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament in the knee joint. When this ligament ruptures, it causes lameness and instability of the knee joint. This can be caused by acute injury, but is more commonly caused by long term degeneration of the ligament due to cruciate disease.

Tibial tuberosity advancement surgery is quite a major surgery, as it involves cutting the tibia to move it into a new position, changing the shape of the knee which helps to stabilise the joint without the need for the cruciate ligament. It also involves screwing in metal implants to keep the bone in its new position.

This lady has quite the recovery ahead of her as she will need to be strictly rested for a few weeks and then very gradually introduced back to her usual routine!

This gorgeous little ball of fluff belongs to one of our Veterinary Care Assistants, Sammy. His name is Dave and he has a story!

He was found a few weeks ago along with 6 siblings dumped outside our Corby branch! We believe they were around 10 weeks old at the time. You may be able to see, Dave is missing a front leg. We don’t know if he was born this way or if it happened in a fight with his siblings. One of his siblings, who has been adopted by one of our nurses, Lilly, was missing an ear!

Hamsters don’t do too well living together, so we do think these injuries may have happened due to family disagreements!

All of Dave and Darcey’s other siblings found perfect homes and are thriving, with most of them living with the vets and nurses of Northlands!

The photo was taken by Sammy. Watch this page for more of her amazing photography!
