Your pet notices more than you think… 💭

• Dogs are experts at spotting changes in your daily routine.(how do they always know it’s nearly dinner time?! 😆)
• Many pets recognise their owner’s scent instantly.
• Cats often notice changes in our behaviour, voice and habits.
• Dogs can detect subtle changes in our body language, breathing patterns and emotions.

We spend so much time looking after our pets, but they’re often keeping a close eye on us too.

Things your dog wants you to know this summer… 💭

🐾 Dear Human,

Summer is brilliant… but I do have a few requests.

☀️ Check the pavement before we walk. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for my paws.

💧 Bring water on adventures. Running around is thirsty work.

🌳 Don’t forget shade breaks. We can’t cool ourselves down as easily as you can.

🚗 Never leave us in a parked car - even for a few minutes.

🦟 Keep an eye out for ticks, grass seeds and other seasonal nasties.

This year’s focus is behaviour, training and enrichment ~ key considerations in supporting the welfare of parrots, highly intelligent and complex animals with specialised needs in both wild and captive environments.

Parrots need meaningful outlets for natural behaviours such as foraging, problem-solving, flight, and social interaction. When these needs aren’t met, we often see stress-related behaviours and welfare concerns.

From foraging opportunities to positive reinforcement-based training, small environmental changes can make a significant difference to welfare outcomes.

💚 This week is a great opportunity to reflect on what good parrot welfare really looks like ~ whether in homes, rescues, or conservation settings.
