Henry was feeling the heat today and was splooting when I popped into the rescue to top up the bowls πŸ₯΅ Hedgehogs β€œsploot” when they get hot - spreading themselves out on the cool surface in a bid to cool down πŸ¦” Look at those fabulous teeth πŸ¦”

Henry was spotted on his finders driveway late at night struggling to walk πŸ¦” Luckily they realised immediately he needed help so they took him to Northlands Vets in Kettering where sadly they discovered Henry had a badly fractured back leg πŸ™
The decision was made to amputate the offending leg and now Henry is in the rescue for some rehabilitation πŸ¦”
I just have to hope he can cope well without a back leg and is soon on his way back to his territory πŸͺ΄
Henry makes 9 hedgehogs in the rescue right now πŸ¦”
I am totally self funded and am now running low on kitten biscuits, floor wipes, marigold gloves and wet kitten food πŸ™

Tiny arrived in the rescue yesterday πŸ¦” She was spotted over a week ago in a garden but the finder was too scared to touch her to be able to contain her despite all my suggestions of how to do so πŸ™ My fabulous volunteer Lynne even went into the garden late one evening to retrieve her from under a box but unfortunately she was gone πŸ™
Luckily yesterday a neighbour spotted Tiny in her garden so popped her in a box and she is now in the rescue πŸ¦”
Sadly Tiny is very poorly πŸ™ and at just 428g has obviously been struggling for a while but at least for now she is safe & warm with food and water πŸ’•

It’s hedgehog awareness week πŸ¦”
The biggest question I get asked regularly is β€œhow do I attract and then support hedgehogs in my garden” πŸ¦”
Firstly ensure hedgehogs can pass freely through your garden by creating a hedgehog highway - just a CD sized hole in your fence will be sufficient πŸ¦”
You then need to provide fresh water and suitable food ideally in the shelter of a feeding station 😊
Leave areas of your garden β€œwild” don’t sweep all the leaves away as they make fabulous nesting material for hedgehogs 🍁
Minimise the use of pesticides and poisons such as w**d killers & slug pellets in your garden πŸͺ΄
And finally be very careful when using tools in your garden- ensure you check for sleeping hedgehogs in their nest in long grass or under hedges before using a Strimmer or sharp gardening tools πŸ¦”

Please remember - hedgehogs don’t sunbathe β˜€οΈ
If you see a hedgehog in your garden in the daylight it needs rescuing πŸ¦”

Ruby came in yesterday πŸ¦” this wobble is a sign of dehydration πŸ™ She was spotted in her finders garden during the middle of the day and is seriously ill right now πŸ¦”
She is cold, dehydrated and full of parasites and has started treatment for all of these things 😊

If it’s at all possible please make a CD sized hole in the bottom of your fence to enable hedgehogs to travel more freely from garden to garden πŸ¦”

My first baby of the season πŸ¦” little Harriet arrived this morning after being spotted on the school run by children in Corby 😊Unfortunately tiny Harriet weighed just 48g and despite my best efforts she lost her very short battle just a couple of hours after arriving in the rescue 😒
