☀️ The weather forecast is predicting hot sunny weather today and over the weekend. Although locally we will not be experiencing the high temperatures that some parts of the country are.
We urge you to take care with your pets to ensure they don't overheat.
Dogs
*If you have an extreme heat warning, simply do not exercise your dog, stay indoors❗
*DO NOT leave your dog in the car, in any circumstances
*In the cooler areas of the country dogs could be walked early in the morning or late evening, but consider whether it is really required.
*Offer plenty of cool water to drink frequently
Cats
*Keep them indoors, encouraging them into the coolest part of the house
* Clipping the hair off the stomach of long haired cats may help
* Place an icepack wrapped in a towel somewhere where they like to sit to help them feel cooler.
Small Furries
* Ensure cages are shaded and have ventilation. Provide them with something cool to lay on, if they chose
* Consider bringing them indoors into a room with a fan
* Check they have water available at all times
⚠️Brachycephalic (short nosed) breeds, elderly, and overweight pets are particularly susceptible to the effects of the heat, but any animal can be affected⚠️
⚠️SIGNS OF HEAT STROKE⚠️
Distress
Panting excessively
Breathing difficulties
Disoriention
Vomiting (dogs and cats)
