🕷️ Tick Check Time!🐾🌿

Summer is the perfect time for long walks and outdoor adventures—but it's also peak tick season.

Ticks are small parasites that attach to your pet's skin to feed on blood. They can transmit diseases and may cause irritation or infection, so it's important to check your pet after every walk, especially if they've been exploring long grass, woodland or heathland.

🔍 How to check your pet for ticks:

🐶🐱 Run your hands slowly over your pet's body, feeling for any small lumps or bumps.

Pay extra attention to:
👂 Around the ears
👀 Around the eyes
😌 Under the collar or harness
🦵 Between the toes
🐾 Around the paws
🦴 Under the legs (armpits)
🐕 Around the neck and chest
🐈 Under the tail and around the groin

Ticks can be as small as a poppy seed before feeding and may grow to the size of a pea once engorged.

❌ Found a tick?
Don't squeeze it, burn it or cover it with petroleum jelly.

✅ Use a proper tick removal tool to gently twist the tick away from the skin, taking care to remove the whole tick. If you're unsure or the tick is in a difficult place, we're happy to help—just give us a call.

🔥🍔 **BBQ Season is Here… But Is Your Pet Safe?** 🐾☀️

Nothing says summer like a barbecue with family and friends—but while we're enjoying burgers and sausages, there are a few hidden dangers for our four-legged guests.

🐶🐱 **Keep an eye out for these common BBQ hazards:**

🌽 **Corn cobs** – One of the biggest summer dangers! Corn cobs can cause a serious intestinal blockage and often require emergency surgery.

🍖 **Cooked bones** – They can splinter easily, causing choking, mouth injuries or damage to the stomach and intestines.

🧅 **Onions, garlic & chives** – Common ingredients in burgers, marinades and salads that are toxic to both dogs and cats.

🍫 **Chocolate desserts** – Even small amounts can make dogs seriously ill.

🍇 **Grapes & raisins** – Often found in fruit salads and desserts, these can cause kidney failure in dogs.

🍺 **Alcohol** – Curious pets may lap up spilled drinks, but even small amounts can be dangerous.

🍢 **Skewers** – Wooden skewers can be swallowed and cause life-threatening injuries to the digestive tract.

🔥 **Hot BBQs & disposable barbecues** – Keep pets well away until they've completely cooled to avoid painful burns.

🦴 **Fatty leftovers** – Rich foods can upset your pet's stomach and may even trigger pancreatitis.

💚 **Top Tips for a Pet-Friendly BBQ**
✅ Keep tempting food out of reach.
✅ Ask guests not to feed your pet from the table.
✅ Provide plenty of fresh water and a cool, shady place to relax.
✅ Keep bins securely closed and clear away leftovers promptly.
✅ Have some pet-safe treats on hand so your furry friend doesn't feel left out!

Looking for something to keep the little ones entertained during the school holidays?

We've got just the thing! 🖍️🐶🐱

This summer, we're inviting our younger animal lovers to take part in the Green Lane Veterinary Clinic Colouring Competition!

How to enter:
🖨️ Download and print one of our two colouring sheets from our page.
🎨 Get creative with your brightest colours, glitter (if you dare!), stickers or anything else to make your masterpiece stand out.
📅 Bring your finished picture along to your next appointment or pop it into reception with a name and contact number on the back before the closing date (28th August)

🏆 The Prize
Our team will display all of the entries in the practice before getting together to choose our favourite masterpiece.

The winner will receive a special Green Lane Veterinary Clinic Goodie Bag full of fun treats and surprises! 🎁

✨ We can't wait to see all of your amazing creations—there's no right or wrong way to colour, so let your imagination run wild!
