I know some of you are going to be cross about this, and some will be sad - but after nearly half a century we’ve called “Time” at Baverstock. We are retiring, and our last normal trading day will be Friday 31st July 2026.
Although we’re not over the hill just yet, what we do is exceptionally physically demanding and it takes its toll. Westerham Hill mid-winters are gruelling, most of us are not young, and enough is enough. We all need to start a warmer, mellower chapter whilst our arthritic fingers can still turn the page! :D What’s more, my husband Konrad & I have three elderly parents between us who now need more support than we are currently able to give whilst running Baverstock.
It’s a highly emotional decision, so please respect that and be kind. We want to carry on for these last few weeks “normally” & just enjoy ourselves doing what we’ve been doing for so long together.
I know not having a feed merchant (one who has the space to carry the huge amount of stock we do) on your doorstep will be an inconvenience, but I’m quite sure others very close by will quickly jump at the chance to remedy that.
Team Baverstock is special. Lorraine has been outstanding, as has Rosie, and it is fitting that our dear, much-missed Donna is coming back for our last day, just because she wants to be with us. Thanks go to Devon who kindly agreed to come back and help us out with our last few months (despite already having a full-time job elsewhere!) - she’s been an absolute blessing. Thanks too to Alfie, who has reminded us of what it’s like to be 18. :) Baverstock has been a huge part of our lives, and we want to be together to say goodbye to it. One thing is for sure, the team at Baverstock will stay life-long friends.
Bring extra tissues for us if you’re coming in on the last day – and could the head-hunters for Lorraine & Rosie please form an orderly queue. I can’t recommend these incredible ladies enough.
Thanks for your custom, your loyalty and all the laughs. It’s been good, hard-working fun being part of this animal-loving community.
We will be trading as normally as possible in the run-up, so it will give us & you, our valued customers, time to get used to the idea - and the chance to say our goodbyes over the next few weeks. We’ve met some great people over the last 46 years. We’ll miss (most of) you. 😉 Thanks for reading. Lizzie xx
