MatchPig

MatchPig A guinea pig introduction service to match your recently bereaved pig with a new friend.

MatchPig was launched after repeated enquiries from people who were left with a lonely guinea pig after its companion died and they desperately wanted to get a new friend but were unsure or afraid of the process. The bonding of two animals unknown to each is often fraught and frequently better left to those with more experience.

A boar called Friendly came all the way from Eastbourne last week to be introduced to Pippa (spayed sow). We were a little concerned that he might pester her too much and he was quite full on in the beginning. But finally she put him in his place and their friendship was confirmed 😍.

We wouldn't have sent them home if we weren't sure it was going to be ok and here they are settling in together nicely. 😘

We’ve been quiet on Facebook since official lockdown but we started doing introductions in the summer especially as there’s no need for us to meet owners face to face. So with distancing procedures in place, we brought happiness to piggy lives throughout the pandemic by introducing them to a friend (or two).

Bamboo met Holly and Rosie
Tallulah met H***h
Sherbs & Clementine met Blossom and Bluebell (difficult match, lots of uproar!)
Oxo met Patchy
Badger met Herman
Arna met Luke
Peanut met Luna
Cushy met Boo
Astro met Hetty
Squid met Hughie
Lucas met Bailey

There were a few more in between and we’re getting busy again with more lined up for October. Next up is Peppa to meet Zulu, Friendly to meet Pippa.

IMPORTANT NEWS

Sorry - but for the time being we aren't taking in any more introductions as we are in lock down. We'll let you know when we are back up and running though.

Thanks for your understanding in these trying times. On the plus side, you may have extra time to give your pig/s extra cuddles and attention so keep them loved up in the meantime. 😘

MatchPig is fully booked with introductions until April but here is 5 year old neutered boar, Bamboo who recently came in to meet his two new, young wives - Holly and Rosie. A little bit of excitement to start with and then he calmed right down. He is 5 this year after all so probably just wants an easy life going forwards. ;)

We've just introduced Pasha to recently bereaved Poppy.

Pasha was one of the piggies who came to us from a care home when a resident was caught punching him and his friend, Mango....! 😿

It took several weeks to calm them down as they were both completely terrified. Once settled, they started fighting so these boys were neutered so they could meet a girlfriend each and have a chance of happiness.

Mango met Devon (after her companion died) but Pasha was destined to meet Poppy, who belongs to one of our regular adopters.

Pasha could not have gone to a better home and is absolutely loved to bits already! A special boy who deserved a special home and friend in Poppy. 😍

We like to check how our matched piggies are doing once home. Georgia updated us on Pumpkin, Cinnamon and Sweetie who we recently introduced. 😍

"They’re all getting on okay, Pumpkin has been quite relaxed about it all and hasn’t really been too noisy - only when she wants food! Her and Sweetie sit together a lot so I think they’re getting on well.

Cinnamon has been the naughty one and has been rumble strutting at the others quite a lot! He seems very happy though and has been popcorning a lot and has been sprinting around the cage too.

Sweetie has started to popcorn too and seems a lot more confident with us".

MatchPig has just completed an 11 day match for 3 piggies. Visiting old girl Pumpkin with Sweetie (sow) and neutered boy, Cinnamon. Sometimes it can take that long and there are no shortcuts, we just need the pigs to work it out in their own time (hopefully!)

There was lots of yelling from Pumpkin (her natural behaviour according to her owner) so she screamed blue murder every time Cinnamon tried it on. Sweetie was still nervous as she’d only been with us a few months and had arrived in a bad state anyway with matted hair the size of golf balls around her bum.

There were some tussles and lots of shouting but things got quieter - and food was always going to calm Pumpkin down anyway!

Owner Georgia is experienced with piggies but was briefed on what to expect as it will take several weeks more for them to fully settle in their new home all together.
