𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐈𝐍𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐀𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍
I'm sure everyone has seen missing Ice on social media. Last night I went up to the area to help the owner out from a behavioural stand point. We put out scented items in the area she went missing and her own garden & talked through what to do when she ultimately does come within reach. Everything that should be done to get her back is in place - she was set up for success.
A few hours later, she left the wooded area we had been watching her in that held the scented items and she went home, where her garden had also been scented. What happened next is why I'm writing this post. A member of the public who probably thought they were doing the right thing, entered the garden and tried to corner her to catch her. She then bolted again. She was within metres and minutes of being safe and secure. Incredibly frustrating, but ultimately gutting for her owner who was so close to having her back.

Ice is usually very timid, but as she's been missing since Sunday, her brain is now in '𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐞'.
When a dog is lost, it's like a switch that goes off. They revert back to their primal instincts, focusing solely on shelter, food, water & safety - protecting themselves.
They find humans suspicious, which is why they tend to be most active from dusk till dawn. Again, why she was so active last night! They become extremely skittish, avoid people, heightened vigilance and nervousness & may not recognise their own owners or the voices of familiar people. So, we try to use their best sense - smell.

• Don't follow her, chase her or try to catch her
• Don't call her name or make any noises towards her
• Don't stare at her
• Don't throw food at her
Instead;
• Leave her alone. Trust that she's working her way home through the protocol that has been put in place.
• Report the sighting is the only thing you should do. Text her owner; 07507712034 or message me or Mackenzie.
I know people mean well & are only trying to help which is very kind, but the best way you can help get her home is to follow the advice laid out above. ☝🏼 Essentially, do nothing other than report the sighting.
