So sorry to hear that lovely Barbara of Cricklade’s Animal Fayre pet shop has tragically died. 🥲She will be missed terribly by the community and friends. Thinking of her family at this time.

Great advice for helping our lovely dogs 🐶 ❤️

Summer is wonderful. But for dogs - especially those who find change difficult - it can quietly become one of the most disruptive times of the year.

The good news is that a few consistent habits make an enormous difference.

Keep the fundamentals steady - feeding times, sleep times, the basic shape of the day - even when everything else is shifting. Routine is genuinely calming for dogs, and maintaining it through the summer months costs very little effort but pays back enormously.

Keep practising short absences even when you don't need to leave. Don't let the alone-time routine disappear just because everyone is home. A dog who has practised being alone through July is in a much better position when the holidays end.

And start thinking about daily life now. Not when the school run starts again and you suddenly realise your dog hasn't been alone for eight weeks.

The work you do in June and July is the work that makes September manageable.
