Sadly, adoptions don't always work out...
This has unfortunately been the case with Spook, a 4-year-old Bengal, who was rehomed last year with his brother, Phantom.
As the boys settled into their home, they were initially doing well but when they started going outside, things changed. Bengals are notoriously territorial with other cats, and when they encountered cats in the neighbourhood there were fights, which then led to them attacking each other.
This behaviour escalated over several months, despite their owners' best efforts. Our staff offered advice and support, and this was followed to the letter, but it reached a point where Spook was constantly stalking his brother and attacking him, inflicting physical injuries.
No owners could have done more than Phantom and Spook's have done to try to resolve things, but in spite of their dedication and patience, it became clear that the bond between the boys had been irreparably broken. The cats were both extremely stressed and unhappy, and so the heartbreaking decision was taken to return Spook to our care.
It goes without saying that, going forward, Spook MUST be the only cat and he should ideally go to a home where there are few other roaming felines in the neighbourhood.
His owners have shared these lovely photos and the following insight into his character;
"Spook is incredibly loving and will often follow you from room to room for fuss and company, often meowing at you for attention (in classic Bengal style).
While he doesn’t like to be picked up, we did have a few occasions where he would choose to sit on our laps himself or cuddle right up next to us, and he would often jump up on the sofa next to us, so as to be in reach. He just loves a tummy scratch!
He loves toys on string the most and jumps really high! He will often bring toys over to you so you can play and has also been known to chase after small balls if kicked around the garden. He also loved his cat wheel, and would run for ages on it.
He is a cat who will often greet you at the front door if you’ve been away, with some instances where he would wait on the door step for me to come back from a run.
He's a really intelligent boy, and while he'd try his best to catch animals, he never succeeded and never once brought any unwanted gifts home!"
This lovely boy has been so well loved, and while we're all devastated that him coming back to the cattery has been the ultimate outcome, we know that this is 100% the right decision for him and his brother, and it's now our job to find him his forever home.
